It was one of those days that I wanted to take my heart out of my body and set aside because it hurt so much.

About an hour after arriving to work, I received a text. It was one of those that changes things in a pretty big way. To be completely honest, most of the day, my heart felt like had been ripped from my body, torn in half, and then placed back in.

This isn’t how God intended things to be.

Because of sin nature and the fact that we live in a fallen world, things happen that are outside of God’s perfect will and design. This new trial didn’t surprise my Lord – it did me, but it didn’t surprise Him.

Today, I was reminded of one of my most cherished quotes by Charles Spurgeon.

“I have learned to kiss the wave that throws me against the Rock of Ages.”

Oh may I welcome this pain as a chance to press into my Beloved. He promises never to leave or forsake me. I despertly cling to that promise. The nearness of God is our good. When we endure trials, we are reminded of this truth.

“Can the waves of trials drown us if we have a Substitute who endured the greatest trial in our place? – Gloria Furman

I trust in my Great Redeemer. One day, He will redeem all things lost.

Dear one, I don’t know what trials you’re facing. I’m not intimately acquainted with the cares that threaten to overwhelm you.

But God knows. He sees. He intimately cares.

“When there’s nothing in heaven or on earth or under the earth that can separate you from Christ’s love, waves of trials can only throw you onto the Rock of Ages. Resting on that Rock is where I’d like to be and stay forever, and may the Lord bless the means he uses to remind me of that.”
