How to make a Christian grumpy

Coffee cup fresh in hand, this morning I settled in to start reading Treatise on the Gods, by the incomparable H.L. Mencken. The book’s first chapter, “The Nature and Origin of Religion,” begins with this: (more…) Read more

Got this in: Hello, Sir! I’ve read through your work, and especially liked your 2+2=5 post. I have a problem that makes me very sad, and I can’t change anything about it, so I followed your advice in that post, asked for peace, and got some! Except it was temporary relief … Maybe I asked wrong? (more…) Read more

I’m just now settling in to write John’s Monthly Newsletter. If you don’t know, I do two e-newsletters: John’s Prayer for the Week, which every Monday morning I go into the deepest possible meditative state before writing and sending out to subscribers, and the monthly, in which I share about developments in my personal life and do a giveaway. World War Gay is Over!
Last updated on: April 25, 2013 at 7:54 am By John Shore
Unaware that their cause had been lost, a small number of Japanese soldiers deep in the jungles of the Philippines continued waging guerrilla warfare against an imaginary enemy years after World War II had ended. Via pamphlets dropped from airplanes, newspapers left for them everywhere, and even relatives at the jungle’s edges hollering at them through bullhorns, the diehard soldiers got the news that the war had ended. They just didn’t believe it. (more…) Read more

Can a man act too effeminate?
Last updated on: September 6, 2016 at 12:33 pm By John Shore

Sometimes, I feel that God does not like the way I am. So would you say I should change even though this comes naturally for me? Thanks so much! I greatly would appreciate your response and time taken to write it. The only reason for which I... Read more

Anti-Gay Christians: What’s in Your Wallet?
Last updated on: April 22, 2013 at 10:15 am By John Shore
The reason conservative Christians invariably give for asserting that homosexuality is an egregious sin against God is that the Bible says it’s so. “God said it, I believe it!” is the conservative Christian’s credo. (more…) Read more

An Open Apology From Christians to Gay People
Last updated on: November 4, 2014 at 5:51 am By John Shore
[This post originally appeared on my old blog at JohnShore.com, from where it was shared some 30K times and generated some 650 comments before I disabled comments.] Last night I dreamed that I was standing in the sanctuary of an immense empty cathedral. Broad beams of jewel-colored light cut through the air high above me, coming to illuminate a majestic pulpit that seemed halfway to heaven. Torn between curiosity and trepidation, I made my way up the many stairs leading... Read more
