The Thanksgiving 2013 Share a Prayer 2013-11-27T09:36:37-08:00 John Shore
Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.
Some of you may recall last year’s Thanksgiving 2012 Share a Prayer, in which my readers asked for a prayer and also prayed for another. Let’s do that again this year.
If there’s something you would like someone to say a prayer about, leave your prayer request in the comments section below. Share as little or as much as you’d like. (And remember that you can leave your request anonymously by simply logging in with a fake name and/or email address.)
There’s one condition for your leaving your prayer request: You must also leave a reply to someone else who has done the same, telling them that you will pray for them.
You can leave a message that you will pray for as many others as you’re moved to, but you must pick at least one other person to pray for. (Ideally, you would first pick someone whom no one else has yet chosen: I don’t want anyone left without anyone to pray for them. 🙁 ) You are invited to pray for as many people as you might.
Of course it’s up to you what constitutes a prayer. It doesn’t have to be a God-centered, Christian, or religion-specific prayer. Whatever your version is of sending to another love and hopefulness is perfect. (And you don’t have to—though of course you certainly can—say/write your prayer right here, either.)
So at least one person will say a prayer for you, and you will say a prayer for at least one person.
Then at 9 a.m. PST on Wednesday, Nov. 27—the morning of the day before Thanksgiving Day—I’ll write and publish my group prayer for us all (which will include a part about people who are estranged from their families). I’ll start praying over the requests and the writing of my public prayer at around 7 a.m. that morning. If you think of it, I’d appreciate your prayers and thoughts at that time. [UPDATE: my Wed. morning prayer is here. As I say in that post, please continue using this space to request and receive prayers for as long as you’re moved to. I’d love to see the prayer exchanges continue through at least Thanksgiving Day, since it’s often on the day itself that we find ourselves most in need of comfort and communion.]
Thanks for participating in the Thanksgiving 2013 Share a Prayer.
[Some people are also leaving and responding to prayers on the Facebook page of Unfundamentalist Christians. So of course feel free to drop by there and do the same.]
