The Whole Woman Series: Osheta Moore and Your Own Worst Enemy

The Whole Woman Series: Osheta Moore and Your Own Worst Enemy 2017-02-19T21:00:57-04:00 Kerry Connelly

LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

I think there’s one thing we can all agree on: the world could use a whole lot more peace.

For some of us, that means peace in our homes that might be riddled with interpersonal strife, stress, cold shoulders.

For others, it’s the kind of peace that comes when we know the world is safe for us and for our children, when we know our basic human rights are protected, when we know our place in the world is secure.

And for many of us, like me, right now, it’s just some damn peace of mind. Like, literally. I want peace. In my head.

In my head is this tiny little dictator. She’s a back-stabbing perfectionist and a negative Nelly who can’t every spend some time just being happy, for Pete’s sake.  Every accomplishment, every goal met is judged somehow not quite good enough. And mistakes? Forget it. She blows them up into dramatic mess ups worthy of the world stage. You’d think I had the keys to the little nuclear buttons, the way she makes my mistakes seem so big.

It’s frustrating to not be able to enjoy even my greatest accomplishments. And who is this chick, anyway? This woman in my head who’s such a raging bitch? I wouldn’t let a single one of my friends talk to me like that — why do I let her do it?

Especially because I want to be something more in the world. Meaning, I want to give the world more, serve the world more, and use whatever little talent and skill God has given me to make the world a better place. So she needs to shut up already.

oshetamooreMy new friend, Osheta Moore, understands my pain. Osheta is the creator of “Shalom In The City”, a podcast and website that empowers women to become everyday peacemakers. At The Whole Woman Summit, she’ll be taking on our own worst enemies — those negative, fearful voices in our heads that keep us from being the peacemakers the world so desperately needs.

Osheta will lead us as we explore the enemies within,  and she’ll give guidance on how to make peace with them. Shalom is “God’s dream of wholeness, flourishing, prosperity, and unity for the world and all the relationships within it”. This talk will teach you how to live fully into that by identifying which enemy within you struggle with and then giving you practical next “Shalom Steps” towards your wholeness, so that you can live wholeheartedly in our brokenhearted world.

See you at The Summit!

The Whole Woman Summit

Each Friday for the next few months, I’ll be writing about one of the amazing women who are speaking at The Whole Woman Summit in March. These are women who are movers and shakers, Christian and not, who are doing very cool things in the world. The summit is all about the things that matter — MIND. BODY. SPIRIT. WORK. RELATIONSHIPS. JUSTICE. The summit is entirely online, and all registrants will receive video recordings of all sessions, so no worries if you miss any.

See you at the summit!
