Jeremy Lott’s Books

Jeremy Lott has written three books under his own name and was the recognized ghostwriter for former Maryland governor Marvin Mandel’s autobiography I’ll Never Forget It: Memoirs of a Political Accident From East Baltimore. Additionally, longer pieces have appeared in three essay collections. The books are:

In Defense of Hypocrisy: Choosing Sides in the War on Virtue: Glenn “Instapundit” Reynolds endorsed the book. He wrote, “With verve, gusto, and just the right amount of humility, Jeremy Lott argues that hypocrisy isn’t as bad as advertised, and that the critics of hypocrisy are often hypocritical themselves. A perfect read and a necessary corrective for this political season.”

The Warm Bucket Brigade: The Story of the American Vice-Presidency: Ellen Wernecke, reviewer for The Onion‘s A.V. Club gave the book a mixed but positive review. Jeremy, she wrote, “hits bulls-eyes, like encapsulating Gerald Ford’s post-Nixon platform as ‘He was also for ice cream and against mean people.'” She called the book “an altogether amusing, digressive account of ‘the drunk tank for the power-mad.'”

William F. Buckley: This was part of the Christian Encounters series of brief lives. In Catholic World Report, reviewer Paul Kengor wrote, “That [publisher] Thomas Nelson Publishers was willing to include Buckley in this series is commendable, and Lott rewards the decision with an insightful look at Buckley’s life and contributions viewed through the narrow but illuminating lens of his religious faith.”
