When You Want to Understand that Marriage Thing

When You Want to Understand that Marriage Thing 2015-11-02T12:33:31-05:00 Jennifer Fitz

Two links and a note:

The best summary of the theology behind the Great Communion Debate of 2015 is over at Darwin Catholic. A snippet from the conclusion:

Given all of that, to say that a divorced and remarried couple (unless they have decided to live together celibately) may receive communion necessarily means that you disagree with one of the following teachings of the Church:

– That someone in grave sin may not receive the Eucharist
– That having sex outside of marriage is a grave sin
– That marriage is indissoluble

Thus, there is no room for “only a change in practice” here. Any change in practice would either imply a change in doctrine, or would mean advising people to do what Paul describes as itself being a grave sin: receiving the Eucharist unworthily.

Read the whole thing to see how he got to that point.

Meanwhile, Dr. Greg Popcak has a three-question marriage quiz to see if you have your facts straight.  Short questions, and the detailed answers follow.

Fundamentally, the communion question and many other issues flow from a deeply rooted misunderstanding of the nature of marriage.  If you’d like to get your mind in proper working order on these topics, consider taking Family Honor’s online college course that’s all about sex, sex, and more sex.  One of the things I hated-but-appreciated is that the homework was never “Parrot back to me the thing I just told you.”  We were expected to think through our own reasoning on the great questions around sex, sexuality, and passing on the message of chastity to others.  That makes it a harder class, but a much better one.

Hence I pass on this note from my inbox:

Just a reminder that tomorrow (Tuesday, Nov. 3) is the Early Bird deadline for our Family Honor Online Course registration. Should you take this course? Pray to the Holy Spirit and ask for guidance! With God, all things are possible!

Key benefits of taking Family Honor ’s course:
