The Holy Fingers of Jesus: On the Execution of Torrey McNabb

Last updated on: October 23, 2017 at 11:30 pm By Jeff Hood

The diagnosis is terminal. Truth be known, you probably only have a week or two left. Fear inhabits every orifice of your body. There is nowhere to go. There is no one to turn to. There is only one thing to do…die. Then, the phone rings. On the other end of the line, a stranger offers help. For your last few days, the stranger provides you with shelter and care. The beauty of their sacrifice is amazing. Love is... Read more

Thoughts on Ben Rigg’s Finding God in the Body: A Book Review

Last updated on: October 18, 2017 at 12:17 pm By Jeff Hood

Our church was crazy as shit. Everybody was constantly telling everybody that they needed to get saved and everybody was always trying to get saved. To say that it was a confusing environment was an understatement. Like most similar environments, we were taught that our bodies were bad. I can promise you that our youth group talked much more often about saving yourself until marriage than it did Jesus. Regardless, one night was particularly crazy. Everybody had already... Read more

The Eternality of Souls

Last updated on: October 16, 2017 at 9:57 pm By Jeff Hood

There is a church a few blocks from our house. I run by it everyday. Though I’ve known about their theology for some time, I’ve always wanted to hear more. I’m not interested in joining…I know enough to have firmly made that decision…but Their are parts I’ve wanted to know more about. In the fall, Saturdays are always yard sale days. Every stop sign seems to have a handmade sign pointing you in the right direction. Unaware of much else…besides... Read more

Jerry Jones is a Racist!: Words from a Press Conference

Last updated on: October 16, 2017 at 3:29 pm By Jeff Hood

*Delivered October 16, 2017 in front of Dallas Police Department Headquarters I just want to say one more thing. Where are all the white folks at? Specifically, all my progressive white preachers in town who talk about “Black Lives Matter” from the pulpit…and are done with it as soon as they hit the door…I guess it must be about the paycheck. While I don’t know about Jerry Jones’ faith, I do know that Jerry Jones is a racist... Read more

Robert Pruett & Bullshit Figures

Last updated on: October 12, 2017 at 10:22 pm By Jeff Hood

Justice is bullshit. There is no such thing. There is only power. Those of us who want to stop all of this bullshit just don’t have enough of it yet. Tonight, the State of Texas executed Robert Pruett. It’s pretty tough to go up against the State. I’ve tried and lost. That doesn’t mean I’m going to stop. After all the life had left Pruett’s body, various figures expressed glee about what happened, “Justice is finally served!” Power/opportunity... Read more

The Rhetoric of Robert Jeffress: An Ontology of Evil

Last updated on: September 30, 2017 at 10:57 am By Jeff Hood

*A Conversation on Robert Jeffress, infamous Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas James Sanchez: Here’s a quote that sticks out from Robert Jeffress recent interview on Fox and Friends: “These players ought to be thanking God that they live in a country where they’re not only free to earn millions of dollars every year, but they’re also free from the worry of being shot in the head for taking a knee like they would be if... Southern Baptist Pastor Affirms Polyamory!

Last updated on: September 29, 2017 at 11:39 pm By Jeff Hood

Dr. Jeff Hood. CM: From your Southern Baptist background, I’m sure you haven’t always affirmed polyamory. Could you share how your views have shifted on this matter? What led to your change of mind? Jeff Hood: The old wooden doors were intimidating. Pushing hard, I got one of them open. Since everything had already started, I sat... Read more

The Color of Brutality: Theology From Huntington Beach

Last updated on: September 23, 2017 at 3:23 pm By Jeff Hood

“Get down!” Those were the last words that a transient man heard outside of a 7-Eleven in Huntington Beach, California. Shot after shot had riddled his body. Standing over him, stood a police officer that had just taken a life when he didn’t have to. If he didn’t have a badge on, he would be charged with murder. In incident after incident, police officers are resorting to lethal force in order to enforce their will. Police are looking... Read more

Morgan Guyton: An interview with Jeff Hood, author of The Execution of God

Last updated on: September 21, 2017 at 9:50 am By Jeff Hood

Morgan Guyton: An interview with Jeff Hood, author of The Execution of God MG: Hey Jeff, thanks for being willing to talk with me about your new book The Execution of God. It’s a very fascinating theological account of the death penalty. I wanted to start off by asking: how did you get started in your advocacy work against the death penalty? JH: There in the bondage of killing, I got struck down by a miraculous light. “Jeff! Jeff! Why are you... Read more

The Execution of God: Excerpts: Condemnation and Hell

Last updated on: September 19, 2017 at 10:12 pm By Jeff Hood

11/12 “There will be silence!” “Sit down! Sit down!” “The charge is murder!” Death is natural. Murder is not. Do you recall the execution of God? You were there. So was I. We witnessed it all. We watched God being led into court. We heard the incriminating testimony. We listened to the damning details about God’s past. We cringed at the description of the crime. We wanted the demise quicker than the law would allow. The guilty verdict... Read more
