4 Members to be elected to the Roanoke City Council

Last updated on: November 6, 2022 at 12:49 pm   By Rev. Jared V. Ingle

There are 4 vacancies to be filled for Members of the Roanoke City Council. For those who are used to voting the Party line (all R or all D) this will not be an option this year. The main question on the ballot is about the Members of the City Council. Some digging is required to discover their Party affiliations. However, about all of them have their own websites. I always have to have a “why” for writing a political... Read more

Should politicians be guided by their faith in their elected office?

Last updated on: November 4, 2022 at 6:10 pm   By Rev. Jared V. Ingle

Should politicians be guided by their faith in their elected office? The political scuttlebut is every President up until President John F. Kennedy claimed to be a Protestant. President John F. Kennedy claimed to be a Catholic. I’m really not too sure if this is common knowledge, but journalism used to be different than the media hype these days. There are different types of ways to express faith. Have you ever read up on the James K. Fowler’s 8 Stages... Read more

What place does prayer have in sports for both spectators and athletes?

Last updated on: November 2, 2022 at 11:43 pm   By Rev. Jared V. Ingle

What place does prayer have in sports for both spectators and athletes? Consider this an old fashioned editorial. These are lessons learned if experience is still a good teacher. I’ve ran with sports psychologists, in a manner of speaking. Wait for it… sports psychology prayer integration begins at 6 minutes,30 seconds Some of the greatest spectators are preachers. There’s no doubt preachers often use their favorite teams/players for sermon illustrations. In fact I’m always seeing pictures weaving their way through... Read more

Tea Time | it’s so easy to talk about finding a place to start work right now

Last updated on: November 1, 2022 at 4:06 pm   By Rev. Jared V. Ingle

Are you all wondering where to start looking about for work in Virginia? For those looking for a fresh start, this could be a work field guide. I don’t know why you’d look into what I have to offer in the job sector since I’m kind of pigeon-holed. If the work boards don’t lead you directly to a Virginia site, you can usually start by filtering the results somehow. It’s different on every website, but with the filters, it’s the... Read more

juxtaposition on a year of Wednesdays

Last updated on: October 26, 2022 at 11:36 pm   By Rev. Jared V. Ingle

* Juxtaposition before this article || “it keeps no record of being wronged . . . full of grace and truth . . . speaking the truth in love” (1 Cori xiii.5 NLT; Jn i.14 HCSB; Eph iv.15 NIV). These Passages are not diametrically opposed, but I struggle weaving them together in my journal, truly, honestly. You never know what I’m going to write in my Moleskine wanna-be leather bound little Think Ink notebook from Tennessee. Furthermore, this is not a... Read more

Reading Week at seminary | Let’s tentatively begin

Last updated on: October 24, 2022 at 11:02 pm   By Rev. Jared V. Ingle

Reading Week at seminary | Let’s tentatively begin again at this point: and this common read: https://100daysofdante.com/cantiche-paradiso-21-30/?#canto-30 maybe tune in to some easy listening: I’m still waiting for the gavel to fall and Dante to have to make a speech like, “Well, it was nice talking to you all” ): I wish I could connect and have a conversation with this guy about 1-2 times per week. I think he leans toward Orthodox; my hypothesis. I’d really like to know... Read more

Have Politics Poisoned the Evangelical Church?

Last updated on: October 21, 2022 at 1:33 am   By Rev. Jared V. Ingle

“In the ideology of the free market, freedom is conceived as the absence of interference from others.” William Cavanaugh [1] The article question is easy to ask, but difficult to answer. Have Politics Poisoned The Evangelical Church? There are a couple factors affecting this article. First, I look like an Evangelical on paper, but I have become fairly devoted to Ecumenism in recent years.  One of the striking differences is engagement, i.e. in the marketplace and arenas like social justice,... Read more

Bible reading tips & tea time recipes for the day

Last updated on: October 17, 2022 at 10:09 pm   By Rev. Jared V. Ingle

I always start by reading the day-plan with all the readings for the main Text. Gateway put this plan together really well, because there’s an OT reading, a Psalm, a thought from Proverbs, and a NT reading each day. However, the themes are so well interwoven with the Fresh Start, I’m able to always get some context for the main. * Currently listening to the new EP from Stephen Day | Our Vinyl Sessions CLICK Late evening tea, another Keurig... Read more

seat of authority, ethics part 13

Last updated on: October 15, 2022 at 12:41 am   By Rev. Jared V. Ingle

There is one seat of authority over all, even Christians . . . even regarding matters of ethics or conviction. In Romans xiv.6-9, Paul launches into other matters of conviction. Again, the backdrop is a debate with the Judaizers, a rogue group attempting to make all Gentile Christians conform to Jewish Law and tradition (verse 6). There is always fuel for discussions on matters of conviction though, i.e. personal preferences, group norms, etc. Paul ties people together from various sides... Read more

Happy New Year!

Last updated on: October 13, 2022 at 12:01 am   By Rev. Jared V. Ingle

Tonight somebody said “Happy New Year” as we chatted for a moment. My first reaction was “Yom Kippur,” which was actually last week. I never quite know with this person who really has the upper hand with Hebraic Scripture, customs, interpretation, etc. So I poked around in old journals. There’s always some significance to this window of days for me, usually some discerning process. a college fair to remember At one point, my guesstimate is sometime around now October 2018,... Read more
