Dad just called to encourage me.
I’m driving Spark, waiting for my Medicaid paperwork to be processed so I can serve as a counselor, begging God for an answer about the timing…
5 months – Neth called yesterday before church. Medicaid got backed up with applications, so they moved the applications to another department. Neth said it’s the first time they’ve done something like that in years. So it will probably be 2 months of waiting on the general Medicaid. Then it will be an additional 3 months of waiting on all 4 of the Medicaids. Neth took time to encourage me and said, “So settle in,” referring to whatever work I need to do to make it 5 months.
So Dad called this morning “I’ve just called to encourage you” Thursday, October 1, 2026, 9:07 am
My Dad is Vernell Ingle. He has spent his whole career in ministry, called to preach at 9 years old. He has served from the local pastorate to some of the highest capacities in the PCG. Right now he’s the Teaching Pastor at our church.
If he starts praying for you, and calls to encourage you, then you’re going to hear from God. This conversation changed the course of my day.
Matthew 6.34
Dad gave me this Scripture:
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
This is after Jesus took time to instruct His followers what to “seek first.”
“Don’t be discouraged. Don’t worry. God’s got this!”
“God has restored your ministry”
Dad said that it is no small thing that I taught 4 Wednesdays in August for the main church. It’s no small thing that I am teaching 8 weeks in small groups. “That’s 3 months of teaching and preaching, something you love!”
Even now as I type this I am overwhelmed by Dad’s proclamation, “God has restored your ministry.” That was spoken with authority. Dad said that he just called to encourage me, but this phone call quickly turned into an encounter with a prophet.
“God’s timing is impeccable”
When I heard this I almost melted. I don’t think he knew this, but I told him how I’ve been praying fervently about the timing for quite some time now.
Then Neth called yesterday with 5 months. After the phone call, God reminded me that I’ve been praying about the timing.
Dad replied that we always want to hear about the timing unless it’s not in our favor. But God has his reasons for the timing. Sometimes we come through it and then look back and realize, “Oh, that’s why!”
“This is the door God has opened for you right now”
“I’m not saying that God won’t open another door. But it’s perfect weather. You love to drive. It’s not too stressful. When you’re out in the countryside driving, it can feel like worship.”
I sometimes get dreams that I know at the least have meaning, but at the most they’re of God. I just had a vivid dream a couple days ago. When I make a delivery for Spark, I go through all the steps on the app. Then what I always do is ring the doorbell and knock to let the customer know their package has arrived.
In my dream I knocked on a door and it opened for me. I realized as I was dreaming that this was not a Spark delivery. This was my door and my opportunity to step through. I felt a rush of excitement as I took a step forward, only to awake from the dream.
I can interpret that dream various ways, but in conversation with my Dad this morning, he used the word-picture of the open door.
Afterword
The Lord knew I needed this. It’s a rainy day and I’m not really equipped to make Spark deliveries in the rain. Maybe I need to work on that.
I woke up this morning with the goal of using the day to clean up my web presence, delete some old accounts, etc. As I was setting up my laptop, Dad called.
What could have become a stressful day, when I just have more questions for God, was completely pre-empted because Dad took the time to call me and encourage me.
I have the peace of God.
One of my brothers has been encouraging me to write more personal pieces like this, so I thought I would share the conversation.
