I think I’m forgiving her, not my future wife that I’ve been praying for, but my ex-wife.

Maybe a month ago I discovered Samantha Ebert’s song Forty-One

I’m on a journey and this song expresses how real it is to me. I have cried, listening to this song.

Then my son flew in from Virginia to spend nearly a month with me. We always listen to music so I played the song for him. He said that his mom knows who Samantha Ebert is. She has saved the song Flowers in one of her playlists.

He played it for me while we were driving down Sunshine on the way to my Mom and Dad’s.

Samantha Ebert | Flowers

As my son rode in the passenger seat, and we both listened to the song, hot tears begin to stream down my cheeks. I found myself praying for her in the valley. Maybe I’m on a journey, but she could be in the slow slow process of growing.

I texted her and shared some thoughts about both songs. I don’t think she realizes how deeply I was moved. I think I’m forgiving her.

I usually want to do at least one special thing with my son when he’s here. This time we took his cousin to the Bass Pro Wonders of Wildlife Aquarium and Museum. His cousin has a season pass so she was our little tour guide.

It was all fine until I came into a portion that reminded me of the Monterey Bay Aquarium. I found myself thinking about her, our family, and all the people we had shown that aquarium to because we had season passes every year. I almost started crying. I began to think of all the good years we had. It hasn’t all been bad. I have many warm memories. I think I’m forgiving her.

Today I dropped my son off at another cousin’s house to spend the day. I would be alone. I turned on Pandora in the car as I left his cousin’s. The first song was Samantha Ebert Flowers.

I haven’t even given it a thumbs up. It just showed up on my station. Hot tears and prayers for her all the way to my destination. My soul has been quiet all day and I’m on the verge of tears…

Is this what forgiving looks like?
