Texts for Waiting Because it’s Gonna’ be a Minute 2024-05-05T23:10:47-04:00 Rev. Jared V. Ingle

LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

The theme is waiting.

Absalom did this with everyone who came to the king for judgment, and so he stole the hearts of all the people of Israel.
2 Samuel 15.6
How long does King David have to wait from these moments until the kingdom of Israel is restored to him?

Our lives are in his hands, and he keeps our feet from stumbling. Psalm 66.9 We wait for what seems like an endless minute, but our lives and times are in His hands. He sees it all from beginning to end.

Praise God, who did not ignore my prayer
or withdraw his unfailing love from me.
Psalm 66.20
Waiting on an answer, yet knowing the assurance of His presence in the now.

May your ways be known throughout the earth,
your saving power among people everywhere.?
May the nations praise you, O God.
Yes, may all the nations praise you.
Psalm 67.2-3
A Psalm of Israel
There will come a day when we will no longer be waiting for the promises of Israel to be fulfilled.

And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.
2 Corinthians 12.9.a
In times of vulnerability, waiting for strength is difficult, but it’s there all along.

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41.10 Waiting for God to miraculously intervene is nearly impossible at times, but “I will . . . I will . . . I will . . .” is preceded by “I am . . . I am . . .”

Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
Matthew 24.35
Mark 13.31
Luke 21.33
Sometimes we don’t seem to get anywhere because we have our head in the clouds, but heaven (the sky) shall pass away. Other times, we feel like we’re dragging our feet because we’ve got our feet firmly planted on the ground, but the earth shall pass away. While we’re waiting on the world to change, it’s good to remember His words formed it and will outlast it.

To the faithful you show yourself faithful;
to those with integrity you show integrity.
To the pure you show yourself pure,
but to the crooked you show yourself shrewd.
2 Samuel 22.26-27
“you show . . . you show . . . you show . . . you show . . .”
In all honesty, we are waiting at times on a day of reckoning, a day when we reap what we sow.

God places the lonely in families Psalm 68.6.a This is just simply one of my favorite family promises. The term “lonely” can also be translated “solitary.” The meaning is different, but the outcome is the same. God keeps track of our solitude. It’s only for a season. He has “families” for us, making me think not only of a home, but also of the house of faith.

Better a dry crust eaten in peace
than a house filled with feasting – and conflict.
Proverbs 17.1
There is no waiting theme for this. It’s just one of those favorite down to earth Proverbs.
