I Don’t Want To….

…DON’T WANT TO….

I voted with myself and have made a life decision about, well, the remainder of my life.

I do NOT want to be an Olympic Winter athlete.

First of all, let’s talk about the obvious. It’s cold. Everywhere is cold. Even in the venues which are contained inside like the arenas. Have you ever been to a hockey game? It’s cold enough to freeze your nubbins off. You need a parka to go to the restroom, let alone be on the ice, or snow, trekking through the same.

Hmm, I wonder what sport?

I’m not even sure what sport I would do. None of them interest me that much. And of course, I was raised in the desert where it gets cold at 70 degrees, at least to me. How do you decide what sport to do? Most of these people were raised on skies or blades or something other than Converse All-Stars. Do they have baseball in winter? We do where I live. Why don’t they have baseball in the China games? Sure, we have it in summer Games, but winter too, just an idea.

Distance skating—bent over, seems a little excessive and what about your back? Has no one considered lower back issues? Everything held together in that little skin-tight rubber spanx suit a lot of women and a few men would pay good money to have, along with a crash helmet, going around and around in a circle. And if they’re going to do a distance skating competition, they should at least figure out a way to do it outside through the streets like the summer Games Marathon.

Something to think about for the next Olympics. You can’t see much in China because, well, it’s China. Ya can’t really go anywhere this year, they still have the lab door open in Wuhan. Apparently airing it out a little.

Trees are our friends!

I thought about the luge or slalom. Both of those would get me killed if I was lucky or badly badly maimed if I was unlucky. I could see myself flying off the track or course and there would be that moment of quiet, no sound of skies on icy snow or luge parts rubbing on the track, just air whooshing around me as I slowly rotated like the space shuttle into a tree.

The commercials for the Olympics aren’t good enough, like the Super Bowl commercials. Horses playing football, now THAT’S a commercial! You don’t have horses in the Winter Olympics, especially Clydesdale horses, especially in China. They would need ladders to get on and then what? Besides, I think In China they’re a delicacy.

The Olympics this year has started. They had their opening ceremonies, and the games are underway. I haven’t watch them, but I don’t think anyone got hurt or flew off the track yet. I have to admit, those are high points for me, the crashes. Especially when they replay it over and over-slowly-sometimes backwards. The most exciting part I saw before scrolling over to Netflix was the president of Russia fell asleep in his chair watching the opening. That was exciting.

How about those ‘shoulder seasons?’

I don’t know, maybe a fall or spring Olympics is in order. One of the shoulder seasons. A fun one to watch would be a summer game in Arizona, or maybe Egypt or someplace warmer. People would watch that. Lots of Gatorade commercials, I venture.

I wouldn’t do that one either.

GOD LOVES TO PLAY WITH US!

I think God loves when we play, and this is serious play.

I remember my dad sitting in the bleachers at Clarendon Elementary watching me play little league baseball. He would come home from the office, change from his suit into a pair of old slacks and we would throw the ball in the front yard and on game days, he would sit in the stands. I can still hear him when I was on deck and started to walk up to the plate-‘get a hit now.’ He would say the same thing, every time. And when I was in the outfield and a ball was hit to me, I don’t know what he said, if he said anything at all. I wasn’t a bad player. But no one offered me a college scholarship for my play in 7th grade either.

I think God cheers us. I KNOW Jesus does.

Sure, we turn to Dad to help us, guide us, lead us, carry us. How about when we are enjoying ourselves, more than we can imagine, we celebrate the Father who gave us this day, this event, this moment, even if it’s only a moment.

He is our biggest fan, and He loves us perfectly.

Enjoy the ride
