church-in-the-small-countryside-villageI remember years ago my walks in a beautiful village near Rome. In the countryside there was a tiny church that has been abandoned. The main entrance was always open and anyone could come to enjoy the silence immersed in an immemorial time. I’d like to find that silence in every church, not to be overwhelmed by a thousand of warnings and words.

The real liturgical song culminates in silence. The sound is only there to dig some space in the soul for divine silence, the silence that prepares the meeting. This is the spirituality of Gregorian chant. Silence does not always mean singing more quietly, but going more and more deeply in the sound.
