6 Ways the Devil Rolls His Dice Part 1: Discouragement [Video] 2013-12-16T14:45:49-08:00 Karen Trifiletti

LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

Part 1: Discouragement

So, when tough times hit your life what keeps you going? When challenging circumstances or relationships are confronting you—or seem beyond your control? If you need a spiritual shot in the arm or a dose of perspective, I’m hoping you’ll find that here today. God has some responses answer about how to defeat devil’s discouragement.

You’re not alone if discouraged. Elijah ran into a cave after succumbing to despair. He’d tried everything to prove that the God of Israel was more powerful than the pagan gods, and the result, Jezebel sought his life (1 Kings 19). He’d had it. What about Moses who wondered how to bear the load of the calling he’d been given, to free the children of Israel (Numbers 11:16)? Gideon (Judges 6)? In each case, there was discouragement and there was generous provision by God—supernatural grace provided to overcome it. God hasn’t set us up for failure. Discouragement or despondency can be defeated with His help. I hope you’ll join in for this cast and be reminded of some principles to help you or someone you know overcome the devil’s lies about our capacities, our direction, and our hope in Christ.

Scripture: Deuteronomy 1:21: “Look, the Lord your God has set the land before you; go up and possess it, as the Lord God of your fathers has spoken to you; do not fear or be discouraged.”

Faith Quote: You should get into habit of looking for silver lining of storm clouds. And once you have found it, continue to focus on it rather than dark gray of center. Do not yield to discouragement no matter how severely stressed or surrounded by problems you may be. A discouraged soul is in a helpless state, being neither able to stand against the devil’s schemes himself nor able to prevail in prayer for others (Ephesians 6:11). Flee every symptom of the deadly foe of discouragement as you would run from a snake (J. B. Cowan, Streams, pp. 138-9).
