Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.
I lost the keys of the universe. My world was imploding with no purpose to life. I still remember standing at the top of the stairs in my home as a child, wondering who I was and why I was here. I craved that knowledge but felt spiritually starved. Questions about life’s purpose continued to spring up whenever I’d give them the least chance, like
crocuses poking through a late spring snow, only to be buried again. I had no clear answers. As I attended college, the questions came back in force. I was studying theories with no rod to evaluate them, viewing life and trying to set goals for a future without a frame. What was the big picture? How could I determine my life’s course without seeing it in context? I observed others’ lives and wondered what made them tick. Vacations, cars, money—what I imagined it might be—didn’t seem enough.
Eventually, my desire to live waned and I decided to take my life. I had pills by my bed, intending to overdose. …
This set of I Believe video episodes (4 parts) embraces my own journey to faith in Jesus Christ, after a long search for truth, in a day when even the word truth itself strikes a dizzying chord in many. I witness that in spite of the deconstruction of absolutes, truth is knowable, discernible, available to those who seek it. Please find the actual I Believe: Karen’s Story, Coming to Know God, Part 1 Video transcript here.
For my story, join me in this video and please share your journey with me, and let me know if this helps you or someone you care about.
Bible Verse: “This is life eternal, that they may know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent” (John 17:3).
Faith Quote: “Everyone who is seriously involved in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that a spirit is manifest in the laws of the universe–a spirit vastly superior to that of man, and one in the face of which we with out modest powers must feel humble” (Albert Einstein).
