Throat hurts, body hurts, head hurts.  Could be the flu.  Could just be exhaustion from our first week back to homeschool and fall activities, a house full of guest’s, getting N. into and ready for school, our tenth anniversary, my job, and preparing for the largest garage sale we’ve ever done.

Which makes this conversation between me and Ezra three nights ago all the more remarkable:

“Ezra, can you go into the kitchen and get me a pair of scissors?”

(loud sigh) “It seems like all you do is work on the computer and send us to get things for you.  Like you’re the king and we are the servants. I mean, that’s what it seems like to me.”

“Oh really?  Does it seem like you’re my servant while you play in the living room while I prepare a game that you want to play?  You just sit there and play for fifteen minutes, and when I ask you to get scissors so I can cut up the clues, you are the servant? Did it seem like you were my servant when you played for an hour while I made dinner?  Did it seem like you were my servant when you went to bed last night and I stayed up to keep working on the garage sale that you begged me to have?  You feel like a servant because two or three times a day I ask you to get me something so I can keep working? Should I go on, Ez, cuz I’m just getting started?”

“No, I think I have your point now.”

Yes, I should think so.
