“The whole assembly made a covenant with the king at the temple of God.” -2 Chronicles 23:3

In his seventh year of hiding, the last descendant emerged to take his seat at king. To do so, leaders were gathered in an act of military might. As part of this commitment, we are told the whole assembly made a covenant with the king at the temple of God.

Why was this important? This act was similar to our nation’s secret service. Each service member commits to protect the president and is willing to give his or her life up in service. The commitment of those in this chapter revealed their similar allegiance to serve the king even unto death.

What was true of these men with the king of Judah is likewise true of our commitment to Jesus. As King of kings, he is worthy of our full commitment, even if it means suffering or death. Today, many around the world will lose their lives because of their faith in Christ. Let us pray for those in such situations.

Likewise, let us pray we would live with a similar level of commitment. Let us not turn back when the struggle increases. Let us be faithful and serve our God fully.

Let’s talk about it on Facebook! Share your thoughts, pictures, or videos on handwriting Scripture.
