LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

26 The Lord had seen how bitterly everyone in Israel, whether slave or free, was suffering; there was no one to help them. 27 And since the Lord had not said he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven, he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam son of Jehoash. -2 Kings 14:26-27

God cares. Even in Israel’s darkest hours, the Lord saw their suffering and saved them. There was no reason he should have continued to intervene. The text is clear his people had turned against him. Yet he was true to his promise to watch over his people.

The same God who rescued those who did not deserve rescue long ago continues to see our suffering today. Just as he did with Israel, he steps in to save us during our times of need.

Two observations are key to these verses. First, we do not deserve God’s rescue, yet he provides it anyway. Second, he often provides in ways we would not expect. In this case, he used a king who did not follow the Lord’s ways. In our lives, he may use unexpected and unlikely methods to reach out to us, all because of his promises and his care for our lives.
