Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.
Now Elisha had said to the woman whose son he had restored to life, “Go away with your family and stay for a while wherever you can, because the Lord has decreed a famine in the land that will last seven years.” 2 The woman proceeded to do as the man of God said. She and her family went away and stayed in the land of the Philistines seven years. -2 Kings 8:1-2
I am amazed at the faith of the woman in 2 Kings 8. Elisha told her to move to another land for seven years during famine and she took her family and moved for seven years.
Would you do that? Would I? This “moving faith” took her into a last that was often hostile to her people, yet one word from God was all it took to compel her to leave her home and country behind. So how did the story end?
Seven years later, she returned. Her land was restored as well as income from her land from the seven years she had left. Plus, she had missed out on seven years of drought.
Missing suffering, gaining blessing–is this what moving faith involves? If so, we need to grow more sensitive to the word of God, allowing Him to speak to us for our benefit. We may not be promised material blessings, but what matters most is following the Lord. He will control the outcome. He expects us to have moving faith.
