1 Kings 17: The Power of Prayer

1 Kings 17: The Power of Prayer 2013-03-07T07:25:19-05:00 Dillon Burroughs

LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

Now Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word.” -1 Kings 17:1

Could your prayers change the weather? Elijah’s did. He prayed for three and a half years that it would not rain, and it happened just as he asked. Amazing!

Was this limited only to Elijah? Maybe not. James 5:16 uses Elijah as an illustration and teaches that the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. God may not want us to pray for a drought, but he can use our prayers to literally change the course of history.

Why is it that we feel bad when “all” we can do for a person is pray for them? We feel like we need to work to help, but remember: prayer is the work.

When God moves, problems are solved. When God moves a rock out of way, he can even conquer death. Today, do not feel as if you have no power. You have all the strength you need. All you need to do is take some time to stop and to pray.

Let’s talk about it on Facebook! Share your thoughts, pictures, or videos on handwriting Scripture.
