1 Chronicles 25: The Importance of Music 2013-06-10T10:41:31-04:00 Dillon Burroughs

LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

“David, together with the commanders of the army, set apart some of the sons of Asaph, Heman and Jeduthun for the ministry of prophesying, accompanied by harps, lyres and cymbals.” -1 Chronicles 25:1

Music has played a vital role in the history of God’s people. In 1 Chronicles 25, musicians were selected for the ministry of prophesying, or speaking God’s truth. This association of music and truth continues today.

In John 4, Jesus spoke to the Samaritan woman at the well about his true worshipers who would worship in spirit and in truth. The early church sang together, sometimes even experiencing miracles, such as when Paul and Silas were freed from prison when singing together in the middle of the night in Philippi.

Today, we are surrounded by music, yet we often do not realize the importance of it to our spiritual growth. Music can be used to focus our hearts on God or away from him. We are called to focus on music that helps us to concentrate on our Lord and follow his plan for our life. When we do, we find music as a great benefit, regardless of its style, as we seek to honor the Lord with our lives.

Let’s talk about it on Facebook! Share your thoughts, pictures, or videos on handwriting Scripture.
