1 Samuel 8: The Problem with Comparisons 2012-12-05T11:00:06-05:00 Dillon Burroughs

19 But the people refused to listen to Samuel. “No!” they said. “We want a king over us. 20 Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles.” -1 Samuel 8:19-20

God led Israel. Other nations had kings. Israel had the best situation possible as God’s chosen people and those to whom God had spoken, yet they wanted to have what others had. As the rest of the Old Testament reveals, that was usually not a good thing.

The problem with comparison is that you always feel either better than someone else or worthless compared to someone else. This is not God’s plan. Instead, we are to seek God and follow his plan for our own life.

Anything less is less than God’s best.

Let’s talk about it on Facebook! Share your thoughts, pictures, or videos on handwriting Scripture.
