32 David said to Abigail, “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, who has sent you today to meet me. 33 May you be blessed for your good judgment and for keeping me from bloodshed this day and from avenging myself with my own hands. 34 Otherwise, as surely as the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, who has kept me from harming you, if you had not come quickly to meet me, not one male belonging to Nabal would have been left alive by daybreak.” -1 Samuel 25:32-33

Abigail’s husband was a harsh man. When David asked for provisions, he not only rejected him, he mocked both David and his men.

David planned to destroy every male of Nabal’s family as a result. Only one thing spared their lives–the kindness of one woman, Abigail, the wife of Nabal.

She had heard the conversation and took matters into her own hands. She took food to David and his men, offering her service to help in any way possible.

What did David do? He praised the Lord. Plus, he spared the lives of others.

That’s the power of kindness.
