“22 If someone guilty of a capital offense is put to death and their body is exposed on a pole, 23 you must not leave the body hanging on the pole overnight. Be sure to bury it that same day, because anyone who is hung on a pole is under God’s curse.” -Deuteronomy 21:22-24

One of the many laws given in Deuteronomy 21 is to not leave a body on a pole or tree overnight. Why? It would desecrate the land. The people would then be under God’s curse.

Interestingly, at the crucifixion of Jesus, he hung on a tree and became a curse for us. He took the punishment for the sins of all humanity. Why? To allow us the opportunity to receive the forgiveness of sins, beginning a new life with him that extends into eternity (John 3:16).

Many wear a cross around their neck, yet fail to realize the significance of the symbol. It is the mark of death, of a curse, that Jesus took in our place. We dare not forget the price he paid, but rather worship him for the perfect love only the Son of God could offer.

Let’s talk about it on Facebook! Share your thoughts, pictures, or videos on handwriting Scripture.
