LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

He answered, “Must I not speak what the Lord puts in my mouth?” -Numbers 23:12

Despite the odd spiritual mixture of Balaam’s life, he asked the right question when it came to speaking for God: “He answered, ‘Must I not speak what the Lord puts in my mouth?'” He understood, especially after listening to a donkey talk, that what God says is what is important.

Today, we have sixty-six books that comprise our Bibles that included the inspired words of God. Yet many of us who claim to follow the teachings of the Lord rarely crack open the cover to read what it says or discover what it means. Should we not learn from the question of Balaam? He considered it important to only speak what God said. But how can we know what God is telling us to do or say if we do not reflect on what he has already said?

The Bible is more than a sacred book; it is the breath of God (1 Timothy 3:16). Scripture is a very extension of God himself. We are to meditate upon it day and night (Psalm 1:3). The key to knowing God’s will and his worldview is to know what he has said and to do it.

Let us not neglect our God’s words. Let us read them–and apply them accordingly.

Let’s talk about it on Facebook! Share your thoughts, pictures, or videos on handwriting Scripture.
