“8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” -2 Peter 3:8-9

Even within the lifetimes of the apostles, people began to doubt Christ’s promise to return. This was understandable, as they expected Jesus to show up at any moment for thirty years. When it had yet to happen, some began to doubt, just as many do today.

Peter’s response? Don’t forget. Don’t forget what? That with God, time is not the same as it is for us. Our long is his short. He does not operate on our time schedule, but on his. This does not mean his promise will fail, but rather that God is showing HIS patience.

Rather than becoming impatient as we await Christ’s return, let us rejoice in his patience to those who have yet to follow him. Perhaps today is the day you will talk with one person who will say yes to Jesus. If so, a few more days is worth the wait.
