“6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” -1 Peter 5:6-7

As Peter wraps up his brief letter, we find a twofold teaching that informed his readers as well as our lives today. He begins with the concept of humility, not to other people, but to God. When we do, Peter notes that God can then lift us up as the right moment. God can do whatever he wants, yet history shows that God tends to use those submitted to him rather those who focus on self.

Second, Peter reminds readers to throw all of their cares on him because God cares about us. Our God is not a distant, unconcerned deity. Rather, he longs to hear from us and communicate with us in our relationship with him.

When we walk humbly, communicating our concerns with our Lord, we can rest assured that he will hear–and respond–according to his perfect will.
