Hello Again!

Friends, it’s been a while. Life has a way of carrying you along and sweeping you up in its undertow. When you come up for air, you find you’ve drifted a little longer and quite a bit farther than you intended.

Last year felt like a rush of adrenaline about 88 percent of the time, and the other 12 percent of the time, my perfectionism held me hostage. So while I was living, it felt like I wasn’t doing so totally on my own terms. Can anyone relate?

It’s January 2020 (woohoo and cue confetti guns), but the weight of the last decade didn’t just lift at the drop of a ball or the change of hands on a clock. So while I’m grateful for the new year, I am trying to be careful not to attribute any lasting change to the annual exhilaration of a date on a calendar.

Instead, I am making space for some heart work.

What To Do?

The older I become, I realize and appreciate the necessity of having everything written down and saved in my smartphone – so bring on all the cute paper goods and updates in IOs. Also, I decided to use a few tools this year to help bring me back to shore. The real MVPs are my STARTplanner, Lara Casey’s Powersheets, and a new addition from my friend Chrystal Evans Hurst, The Full Circle Planner. In hopes that one (or all) may be a help to you, I’ve linked them for your convenience.

While I cannot claim that these resources will fix my life like Iyanla, I am committed to writing it all down. Like God said in Habakkuk 2:2 (ESV), “…write the vision; make it plain on tablets. so he may run who reads it.” God is asking me to run this year – to tend to some things that have been directly or indirectly put on the shelf. Maybe He’s asked you to do the same. Where will you begin? What small tweak can you make that will act as a life preserver (both literally and figuratively) to get you out of the surf and back on dry land?

One last thought before I go. I read somewhere recently, that comparison isn’t just the thief of joy, it is the thief of everything. This year, let the only standard you have be you, my friend. Decide how this next year, even the next decade will turn out but only in the light of your goals and dreams. Grow in grace and compassion in the process, taking it one day at a time. I hope to do the same.

We’re in this together.
