Judgement Day
Last updated on: May 8, 2019 at 2:26 pm By George M. Benson
New week, new Evangebros about Judgement Day. [soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/617308614″ params=”color=#ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_teaser=true&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”300″ iframe=”true” /] With a new episode comes a few thoughts that I had while we were recording, and things I am still thinking through: Counseling has helped me see myself (and G-d) in a healthier light. I’ve never been happier with the measure I use to judge others with. Everything’s going to be alright in the end, in a way that isn’t terrifying for once. A question I... Read more

Thank you Rachel.

I am joining in the literal thousands of voices this week honoring the woman that changed Christian writing forever. The one and only, Rachel Held Evans. Over the past few days, the conversation in my house has been filled with a lot of, “I cannot believe she’s gone” or “it really feels like the world is dimmer, or a light has gone out.” We have gone back and forth talking about how we cannot remember a time in our lives when... Take up your cross?
Last updated on: May 1, 2019 at 2:00 pm By George M. Benson
Hello everyone! Wednesday means another new episode of Evangebros [ [soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/613238889?secret_token=s-CUBxE” params=”color=#ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_teaser=true&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”300″ iframe=”true” /] ] A couple of things that never occurred to me that came up while recording and preparing for the episode: Part of the messianic expectation around the time Jesus was walking the earth was another David. Someone who would over throw the current Rome occupation, this is something we’ve talked about a few times on the podcast. It never occurred to me that when... Read more

Morning has broken.
Last updated on: April 30, 2019 at 12:26 pm By George M. Benson
I haven’t done this a lot since we relocated to Columbus but, when I was in Grand Rapids, I would make breakfast every morning before I went to work. One of my favorite things to do (much to the dismay of my wife) was use our wedding china to eat off of and drink out of. The reason? Easy. This is the day the L-RD has made. I should rejoice and be glad in it. “Why is our china in... Read more

Desert Wisdom
Last updated on: April 26, 2019 at 2:00 pm By George M. Benson
A little over two years ago I started to read about the desert mothers and fathers who where key to the beginning monasticism within the Christian faith. They would remove themselves from their lives in cities, or wherever they were at and gave up their possessions to live in desert communities. There they would focus on growing closer to G-d through meditation, prayer, reading, study, and engaging in community while caring for the poor. The Abba’s (fathers) and Amma’s (mothers)... Read more

He. Isn’t. Here.
Last updated on: April 26, 2019 at 1:06 am By George M. Benson
I didn’t post this on Sunday for some reason but, this time of year, this video always comes to mind. Resurrection: Rob Bell from Rob Bell on Vimeo. This video is almost ten years old and came about at a time I needed it the most. May we continue to be people of the resurrection. Read more

This week Don and I chatted about the resurrection, what it means, and why it is or isn’t important. Here are a few things I learned while prepping and recording this episode: I have spent, in contrast to what I had originally thought, very little time thinking about whether the resurrection matters. What I mean by that is, while I have thought about why I think it... Read more

Holy Notre Dame Week.
Last updated on: April 18, 2019 at 2:00 pm By George M. Benson
Sure it’s sad that a centuries old church burnt up this week, especially during Holy Week. It is an architectural beauty with great paintings, history, and a Disney film. However, there have been three churches in Louisiana that have been historically black that burnt up as well. Notre Dame will be fine and a few of the richest families in France have already signed up to help rebuild. Be a part of the kingdom at hand, especially during this Holy... Read more

Palm Tuesday on Wednesday
Last updated on: April 17, 2019 at 4:13 pm By George M. Benson
Hello everyone. New episode of #evangebros today! Check out the episode here: Palm Sunday on Wednesday This was a lot of fun to record, but more over there were quite a few learning moments for myself that I am grateful for, here are just a few highlights: For a long time I was under the impression that the teachers of Israel had the imagery of the fig tree or just figs in general. This isn’t the case! I love learning, and... Read more

Reconstructing the Church: Part Two
Last updated on: April 15, 2019 at 3:40 pm By George M. Benson
Last week I posted about ringing in the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, the beginning of the death of mainstream evangelicalism. All of this needs to be considered when we ask ourselves, “what is next for the Church?” I don’t listen to a whole lot of worship music, however Mars Hill Bible Church put out a two disc CD in the early-mid 2000’s that I just adore. It is a mix of readings, benedictions, and various songs that span the... Read more
