Wrecked.

A few months ago my wife and I were out on a rare night she wasn’t working for dinner and drinks. Usually when it’s just the two of us, our conversations can get pretty interesting. My wife usually enjoys coming up with questions for both of us to answer that range from the superficial, “would you rather have feet for hands, or hands for feet?” to deeper ends of politics, religion, or music. This night in particular stands out to... Read more

Rainy Day Books

When I was a young ministry pup, I had been hard into learning the critical analysis and historical context of the Bible and deconstructing it before it was cool. I would (and still do) argue about nuanced things people over look in order, not to prove why my interpretation was correct but, to show that it is a much deeper well with many interpretations (and not in a bad way). This has been a repeated theme in my life over... Read more

There is a walking path behind my house. It is technically a part of a bike path that stretches from Cincinnati to Cleveland. In order to try and become more healthy (physically, emotionally, and spiritually) I have started walking more. While I am seeing more sudden results by calorie counting and cutting back on visiting breweries, the walking has transcended just physicality. It has allowed a space in the morning where I have started to become more aware to what... Read more

At what cost?

This morning, our current president endorsed a comment made by a conservative talk show radio host stating that, “President Trump is the greatest President for Jews and for Israel in the history of the world… he’s like the King of Israel. They love him like he is the second coming of God…” there is more to this but I do not want to give it more press than it has already received. A little later on in the morning, the... Read more

We are adopting!

Last updated on: August 13, 2019 at 1:58 pm By George M. Benson

Friday my wife and I announced on our social media that we are adopting: “So many prayers. So many years. So many times we received a no when we wanted it to be yes. When we “found” her, we knew. It was time. Now that our home study is nearly complete and we are heading into this next phase of papers and waiting, we invite you to celebrate with us. We have a daughter. She’s 2. She’s perfect, and currently... Read more

Unsolicited advice.

Last updated on: June 29, 2019 at 1:55 pm By George M. Benson

Last week was my wedding anniversary. The past eight years have felt at least 16 years long, and at the same time five minutes. They have been the greatest and hardest years of my life, and the Evangelical Church did little to nothing to prepare me for it. For all of the feigned worries of a “Biblical” marriage, I was basically told it would be difficult but because we’d keep G-d first, everything would be fine. Which, honestly, was bullshit.... Get to Know Your Bro!

Last updated on: June 5, 2019 at 2:00 pm By George M. Benson

New episode means more behind the scenes thoughts and insight. This week, my wife and I were driving back from a quick trip to Grand Rapids and when we hit traffic and Don and I chatted we realized we were not going to be able to record a normal episode. So he suggested Jette and I do one together and she pick the topic. So this was a fun thing to record after a long day of traveling at our... Read more

Toe dip.

Last updated on: June 4, 2019 at 10:28 pm By George M. Benson

Today it has been two years since I dipped my toe back into the ministerial waters. Not to spoil tomorrow’s Evangebros episode, but I was invited back to preach at the last church I was on staff at. It just so happened that the day I was given to preach, was the last regular service, so I had the rare and heavy opportunity to close it down (the church was closing its doors, going to dissolve and relaunch into something...
