In a conversation on CNN between two men who appear to not know who Jesus Christ is, and apparently have never read the Bible, Don Lemon asserted that those who believe in Jesus Christ believe in someone who “admittedly was not perfect when he was here on earth.”
“Admittedly” to whom, and by whom? And according to whom or what supports such a claim? (ie. what imperfect acts did Jesus perform? How was he imperfect?)
“Jesus Christ, if that’s who you believe, if that’s who you believe in, admittedly was not perfect when he was here on this earth.”

CNN’s Don Lemon has been known for making racist, bigoted and non-factual statements. But his claim about Jesus reveals the most basic biblical knowledge. Even a simple search online by his producers or Chris Cuomo could have provided him with some answers to correct his misunderstanding.
According to the Bible, which is the basis for what Christians believe, Jesus was without sin. He was beyond the human definition of perfect. Here are just a few verses. There are many more.
Luke 1:35: “The angel answered and said to her, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.” The Son of God was without sin.
1 Peter 2:22, written by someone who knew Jesus personally, the Apostle Peter, Jesus “committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth.”
2 Corinthians 5:21: “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
Hebrews 4:15: “For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.”
1 John 3:5: “You know that He appeared in order to take away sins; and in Him there is no sin.”
Even the Qur’an, states that Jesus and his mother, Mary, are the only two people on earth who are without sin (although it does not define what sin is.)
When the Angel Jibril (Gabriel) appeared to Mary, according to the Qur’an, he said: “I am only a messenger of your Lord, to announce to you a faultless son.” (Surah 19:19)
The words used in Arabic to describe Jesus are ghulaaman-zakiyyan, “a most-holy boy.” The root, zakiyya, which means “blameless,” only appears twice in the Quran, referring once to Jesus and once to Moses. The Qur’an refers to the sins of Moses, and other prophets, including Adam, Abraham and Muhammad. (Surah 47:19, 48:2 refers to Muhammad’s sins). The Hadith also mentions Muhammad’s sins and his belief that he was uncertain of his own salvation when he died.
Jesus, on the other hand, knew he was going to see his Father in Heaven, before he drew his last breadth on the cross. He died with confidence knowing he was doing his Father’s will on earth. His also knew he would be resurrected and later ascend into heaven, because he understood the purpose of his life was to glorify God and to live the perfect life that no person could ever live. He knew he was sent to die as an atonement for imperfect people’s sins.
It is only because of Jesus’ perfect life– and his sacrificial death– that believers have assurance of eternal life. Jesus said whosoever believes on Him will have eternal life.
