Former UT professor’s tirade includes destroying Israel, #CatholicismMustDie 2020-07-15T16:54:46-05:00 Bethany Blankley

A former adjunct professor at the University of Texas–Austin, Spencer Wells, recently launched a tirade on Twitter, suggesting that Israel should be destroyed and #CatholicismMustDie.

In one tweet, he encouraged Iran to bomb Israel. When asked to clarify his comment, he replied: “Nope – I despise the Israelis. If you want to see the post-apocalyptic vision of what Apartheid in South Africa would have looked like in 2020, visit Israel. The Palestinians have suffered for far too long – bomb it until the sand turns to glass…”

In a tweet, UT-Austin stated that Wells is no longer employed by the university.

“Spencer Wells is no longer a faculty or advisory council member at UT,” the university tweeted. “He previously had a courtesy, unpaid appointment as a part-time adjunct that did not involve teaching. That ended in May and was not renewed. We do not have any association with the views held by Mr. Wells.”

First reported on by the Young America’s Foundation, Spencer Wells, initially had posted his role as a UT-Austin professor on his Twitter and LinkedIn bio pages, which has since been removed from his Twitter page.

According to Wells’ bio, he works for National Geographic, where he says he founded the “Genographic Project.” He describes himself as a geneticist, anthropologist, author, entrepreneur and owner of Antone’s, an iconic nightclub in Austin, Texas.

Wells also tweeted “F*** the Catholic Church” after posting an article entitled, “10 Secrets the Catholic Church Hopes You’ve Forgotten,” with the hashtag #CatholicismMustDie.

“How would a Catholic or Jewish student feel in his class, knowing his prejudice may affect their grade or time in the class?” Young America’s Foundation asks. “At a time in our nation where colleges are preaching that hate has no home on their campus, it’s ironic that a professor wouldn’t think twice before tweeting such hate-filled comments.”
