The Divine Blend of Cosmos and Hearth

Last updated on: June 24, 2011 at 8:21 pm   By Guest Contributor

By Lisa Kay Adam Edinburg, Texas One of my dog Ladybug’s favorite activities is sitting on my lap on the back porch, both of us gazing out across the yard.  At these moments she doesn’t want to cuddle or snuggle closely. I do have to pet her, or else she looks back to see why I am falling down on the job. But other than that, I’m only giving her loving support  while she keeps her gaze on the yard,... Read more

Last updated on: June 22, 2011 at 4:47 am   By Carol Stalcup

Last updated on: June 20, 2011 at 11:18 pm   By loupulis

Why do we mourn for a cat? Because Stanley was not just a cat. Stanley was more friend than cat; more companion than animal; more lover than pet. And that is what we mourn – the loss of that friend, companion and lover. Read more

There's No Place Like Home

Last updated on: June 17, 2011 at 9:34 pm   By dustinwalsh

My wife and I had been married for exactly eight days and we were excited for the Mad Men season premiere to begin. We turned out the lights in our living room, watched the show, and then went to bed. When we woke up the next morning, we thought it was strange that we hadn’t heard Millie, one of our two cats. Most mornings she calls to us from outside our closed bedroom door, wanting us to wake up and... Read more

It’s been said to “live like you were dying.” But I think Scout’s way is better: “Die like you were living.” Read more

Jack Comes Home

Last updated on: June 16, 2011 at 7:18 pm   By Carol Stalcup

My cat, Jack, taught me how to love a pet. He broke into my self-absorption and offered his love and attention and only asked that I receive it graciously. I have never known an animal who seemed so wise and intense and determined. People said he was more like a dog than a cat, but I just think he had a unique clarity about what matters. Read more
