GrowMamaGrow would like to wish all its readers a blessed Ramadan. May it be full of good deeds, inspiration and change for the entire community.  May our children, along with us, taste its sweetness. Happy Ramadan!

Here are a couple of ideas to help your children get a good taste of Ramadan and to help create lasting memories…

Ramadan Calendar for Kids

Last year I found a calendar idea in a craft book, tweaked it a bit and came up with these simple computer-generated Ramadan calendars.

Not only are these calendars easy to make with any number of children but the design possibilities are endless. I used black ink but I think colored ink print-outs would be nicer.

Directions

  1. Design a basic calendar and print.
  2. Mark where each square or circle sticker is to be placed (to make it easier for young children).
  3. Decorate the top of calendar with stickers/stamps etc.
  4. Glue on card stock squares etc. or use stickers for balloons.(Use fine marker or pencil to make balloon strings).
  5. Add numbers as each day of fasting begins/ends. (I made the sponge stamps- Used scissors to cut out design.)

Supplies

Welcome Ramadan Banner

If you have kids-then you have to have a banner in your house that says “Ramadan” or Ramadan Mubarak etc etc.!!! You could start a family tradition- make some drums (coffee can) or buy some noise makers and have a parade around the house with kids marching to some nasheed and holding the banner. The parade stops- the banner goes up- and everyone shouts: “It’s Ramadan!!!!! Allahu Akbar!!! Let the Fasting Begin!!” Or something like that!  Mom and Dad should be in the parade, too!!!

Remember…experiences are what make the memories!!

I did this Ramadan banner project with a small group of preschool children last year. It’s so easy, even a busy mom can do it!!

Directons

I precut the letters and backings. I let kids choose the letters and background for each letter. Next kids folded all the background paper in half and glued on the letters. Moms helped the kids glue the letters to the yarn.

Supplies

…..And then at the end of Ramadan ( maghrib before Eid)- have a “ banner taking down ceremony.”   When banner is down, put up the Eid Mubarak Banner!!!
