Simon Pegg, fellow geek turned amazing actor once said,

“Being a geek is all about being honest about what you enjoy and not being afraid to demonstrate that affection. it means never having to play it cool about how much you like something. It’s basically a license to proudly emote on a some what childish level rather than behave like a supposed adult. Being a geek is extremely liberating.”

Well said, Simon.

Here at Geek Goes Rogue, we aren’t afraid to express how much we love stuff. We love to travel. At least, the Head Rogue here, me, does. People ask me what is my dream when it comes to travel. They expect me to answer with some exotic location.

My answer? The Appalachian Trail.

For those who may not be familiar, The “AT”, is a hiking trail in the United States that goes from Springer Mountain, Georgia to Mt. Katahdin in Maine. Total distance? 2,200 miles.

Some amazing people do the trail in one hike. “Thru hiking” takes time, commitment, and an ability to “quit” life for a bit. I have none of those abilities. Instead, I’m going to do what is known as “Section” hiking. That is, a person picks sections at a time to hike whenever they have a spare week or two.

This past October, I hiked my first section. Well, a four mile section of it anyway. I loved every minute of it. I didn’t want to stop.

God willing, I’ll be starting in earnest my section hiking in October from Harper’s Ferry, WV. I’m excited. I’m geeking out.

Many of my travel posts will be about the AT, lore, equipment, funny stories. I’ll try to really have some fun with it and hold the “mystical enlightenment”.

But I promise you, I’ll be “geeking” out about it.
