{7QT} saint week, pastrix, and my day off 2014-05-02T22:07:18-04:00 Sarah Babbs

My copy of Something Other Than God is on its way. Every time the UPS truck comes down the street, I press my nose against the window, eagerly hoping it will stop and drop that Amazon box filled with Jen’s brilliance at my door.

6.
Today was my day off. A wonderful girl from church comes on Fridays to help with babysitting. Today, after a long week, I decided to take part of the day off.

I went to the fancy mall and bought cards from papyrus (I love that store!), tried on shoes at Nordstrom, and had lunch.
Then I went to Barnes and noble and tucked into a rich pile of books, cinnamon tea in hand.

5.
I picked up Pastrix: The Cranky, Beautiful Faith of a Sinner and Saint by Nadia Bolz-Weber.

Oh man. I love it. Read a few chapters in the store and both laughed out loud (and scared an old lady) and teared up more than once. She’s a liberal, foul mouthed Lutheran pastor, not even close to Catholic. But man, she’s so catholic.

It’s on my list to finish.

4.
Shirt of Flame: A Year With St. Therese of Lisieux by Heather King.

This little book looks so good and it’s available on kindle for 2.99 right now!

3.
In an odd turn of events, all three kids had their middle name saint days this week.
Gianna (Maggie) on 4/28
Catherine of Siena (MC) on 4/29
Joseph the worker (Charles Joseph) on 5/1

Too cool! Did not realize that when we picked their middle names. I love this wacky catholic life.

2.
I finally bought my plane ticket for Edel. This is actually happening. I’m already thinking about what I’m going to wear and how I’m going to lose 15 pounds before I meet these people. Yeah, I’m so vain. Isn’t this song about me?

No, but seriously, what are you wearing?

1.
An amazing mom at our parish felt challenged to have a ministry for moms, and so now there’s a moms group and holy hour every Thursday morning. Two lovely homeschool girls volunteer their time and babysit the little ones and we moms get to have a holy hour with adoration.

Oh my, what a difference an hour with Jesus makes. Since we’ve had kids, but especially since the twins, going to adoration was a pipe dream, like peeling alone or eating a hot meal.

Such a blessing, these moms and girls are.

And a bonus quick take: my  little peanuts, Mary Catherine and Charles Joseph, are five months old today. I know. When did that happen?

Oh, that’s right. During polar vortex 1, 2, and 3. These babies.
