A Vicious and Cruel Injustice

Last updated on: June 19, 2018 at 2:54 pm   By Guest Contributor

“The decision of the U.S. Justice Department to separate child immigrants from their parents is a vicious and cruel injustice. For the Attorney General and others to say that this is a biblically defensible practice is a perversion of the Bible and of common morality.  May everyone who cares about these children, especially those who seek to be followers of Jesus, condemn this practice, call for its immediate end, and seek the reunification of families.”—Mark Labberton, President of Fuller Seminary.... Read more

THE FUTURE OF FULLER: The Way Forward

Last updated on: May 22, 2018 at 5:39 pm   By Guest Contributor

Over the last month, I’ve sent several letters describing the whirlwind of disruption that has upended graduate seminary education in the last few years, and the ways we have tried to shift those g-forces to the advantage of Fuller’s core mission. I’m writing now to tell you about a key decision that has just been made (one that, amazingly, was first considered 50 years ago). After a long and careful process, our Board of Trustees has made the decision that,... Read more

THE FUTURE OF FULLER: Value, Innovation, and Challenge

Last updated on: May 22, 2018 at 5:39 pm   By Guest Contributor

On May 3, I shared a letter with you here that I’d sent to Fuller alumni and friends—in which I talked about the disruption we face as an institution in this era of change, as well as the opportunities this disruption offers us. Today I’ve sent a second, follow-up letter to that first one, and I’d like to share that with you as well. The first part of my new letter appears below—I hope you’ll click on the link to... Read more

THE FUTURE OF FULLER: Discernment in the Whirlwind

Last updated on: May 15, 2018 at 8:59 am   By Guest Contributor

Dear Fuller Alumni and Friends, This is the first of several letters I will be sending you over the next few months. Since our world, and Fuller Seminary’s place in it, is at a historic moment of disruption and opportunity, I want to be sure you know what is going on and how we see the great vision before us. Wherever you are on the globe when you read this, I feel confident that a whirlwind of change and uncertainty... Read more

Political Dealing: The Crisis of Evangelicalism

Last updated on: April 23, 2018 at 9:18 am   By Guest Contributor

This speech was given by Fuller Seminary President Dr. Mark Labberton at a private meeting of evangelical leaders held at Wheaton College in Chicago, Illinois, on April 16, 2018. The following has been edited from his notes for clarity and to give context to excerpts that have been disseminated elsewhere. “What draws us together here—and in hope—is the gospel of Jesus Christ.  God’s great love and mercy poured out for the sake of the world is deeper, wider, stronger, and... Read more

DACA and Immigrant Youth: What Are We Called to Do?

Last updated on: February 15, 2018 at 5:33 pm   By Guest Contributor

+ As an institution, Fuller Seminary fully and unequivocally supports continued protection for the members of our society who are DACA recipients. Immigration legislation is a more complicated and long-term issue to solve, but for these young “Dreamers” we pledge our unwavering support. This article from President Mark Labberton shares more about our stance. The following essay was written by Norma Ramirez, Jennifer Hernandez, Jean Carlos Arce Cabrera, and Lisseth Rojas-Flores. Dr. Rojas-Flores (pictured above at left), associate professor of marital and family... Read more

Last updated on: December 5, 2017 at 3:38 pm   By Guest Contributor

“Yearning and Promise” explores Advent and the expectant longing for the birth of Christ through cityscapes, wilderness, and water (filmed at Paymaster Landing in Imperial County, CA). Watch the full video here. +The liturgical calendar spans the life of Christ in a single year—from anticipation (Advent), to hope (Christmas), to transcendence (Epiphany), to lament (Lent), to redemption (Easter), to the birth of the church (Pentecost), and through long, numbered days (Ordinary Time) back to Advent. In its 70th Year, Fuller Extends its Founding Vision More Broadly than Ever

Last updated on: November 1, 2017 at 9:37 am   By Britt Vaughan

This year Fuller commemorates its 70th anniversary: not only celebrating seven decades of innovative leadership in theological education, but looking to a future of equipping men and women in new ways for a vastly changing global landscape. Founded by Charles E. Fuller in 1947 to train leaders who are intellectually sound and culturally attuned as well as solidly evangelical, Fuller is retooling to extend that founding vision more broadly than ever. In an era of declining demand for seminary education,... Read more

Liturgical Meditations: Ordinary Time

Last updated on: September 11, 2017 at 4:14 pm   By Britt Vaughan

“Mystery and Love” acknowledges Ordinary Time—which we have chosen to share with the season of Pentecost—as a time for growth and maturing of the church. The several cities throughout the video represent the fields of harvest where the church that was born at Pentecost grows and matures. It was filmed by FULLER studio in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. The audio for this video is in Korean, with subtitles in English, Spanish, and Mandarin—a poetic way to represent the... Read more
