Four Salutations of the Day, Reformed

Last updated on: September 30, 2019 at 12:22 am   By Rev. Jean (Drum) Pagano

Once upon a time, among the Reformed Druids of North America (RDNA), there was a practice called the Four Salutations of the Day. You can find this practice still today at http://rdna.info/FourDay.doc. This devotional required the use of a staff and was done at for times a day: dawn, noon, dusk, and midnight, or what they called “stars”. I always loved the idea of this practice, but it wasn’t something I ever undertook. In recent discussions with friends of mine in... Read more

Domestic Cult in Gaelic Polytheism Part II: House Gods and Fairies

Last updated on: September 11, 2019 at 12:27 pm   By Chris Godwin

At the end of the pagan era, the household spirits seem to have dethroned the universal, public gods. Popular devotion, turning away from Teutates, Heusus, Belen, and several other inhabitants of the Celtic Olympus, preferred to shift its allegiance to local deities, who were less highly placed and therefore more accessible to humans. Read more

The Core Order of Ritual – Part 1

Last updated on: September 7, 2019 at 6:58 pm   By Rev. Jean (Drum) Pagano

The beauty of the Core Order is that it suggests an order, but other steps may be added into the structure. The workings section is left open for many possibilities. This is the structure that is used for High Days – for groups and individuals. Read more

Mythic Symbols in Indo-European Paganism

Last updated on: July 11, 2019 at 2:54 pm   By Chris Godwin

This is a simple overview of the most prevalent mythic symbols in Indo-European polytheism and comparative mythology. I like focusing on Irish, Vedic and Germanic myths mostly because they are the best preserved of all the Indo-European sources, with all three containing strong Proto-Indo-European influences. Read more

Reflections of Paganicon

Last updated on: April 14, 2019 at 12:27 pm   By Rev. Jean (Drum) Pagano

Reflection   It has taken me three weeks to write this blog. I have been to a lot of festivals, hundreds of them. Each one is different: the good ones are good for a great variety of reasons; the great ones are great in their own way. I attended my first Paganicon this year and this was great plus. It has been a busy year so far. I attended three festivals in February and a brief break before attending Paganicon.... Read more

The Weapons of the Irish Gods

Last updated on: March 6, 2019 at 2:17 am   By Chris Godwin

"The Four Jewels of the Tuatha Dé Danann" describes the four treasures in greater detail than the CMT2. It describes the four treasures, the four isle-cities of learning, and the four druids, the antediluvians, who taught the gods their skills and magic. Read more

Urban Earth Mother

Last updated on: March 4, 2019 at 7:56 am   By Rev. Jean (Drum) Pagano

Urban Earth Mother I discovered the Urban Earth Mother. She wasn’t hiding. Heraclitus said “Nature loves to hide.” I agree. I never thought I would see her with my own eyes, but she was there. Yet, I have. Somewhere between Texas Imbolc and Pantheacon, I found myself with long layovers at Chicago’s O’Hare airport and that is when I found her. I love to travel, and I love to fly. I think it is important as the Archdruid of ADF... Read more

Folk Magic and Rituals: February’s Buffet

Last updated on: February 22, 2019 at 4:31 pm   By Chris Godwin

What is the Buffet? The Buffet is a series of posts that is a smorgasbord of spells, prayers, charms, invocations, ogham draws, or other articles of personal practice. I aim to write a monthly buffet including these sorts of things each month. Not only am I a Druid, I identify as a celtic/irish style folk witch. Spells Increase luck Find a heads up coin in public, put it in your right shoe saying this charm. Spin on that heel clockwise once afterward.... Read more

Building a Devotional Practice with the Sky

Last updated on: February 16, 2019 at 5:00 am   By Rev. Jean (Drum) Pagano

Building a Devotional Practice with the Sky Working with High Days is a wonderful thing, but High Days come and go eight times a year. What can someone do if they want to develop a monthly, weekly, or daily practice? This discussion will investigate building a devotional practice with the Three Realms, namely, Land, Sea, and Sky. Sky In coming to the sky as the object of devotional practice, it is a canvas upon which things are painted. The sky presents... Read more
