My heart has been heavy these past few days after hearing of the death of a young seminarian from North Carolina.  Twenty year old Michael Kitson died on early on Divine Mercy Sunday after having gone to confession and served Holy Mass Saturday evening.  His funeral Mass was held earlier today at St. Ann church in Charlotte.  The homily was delivered by Michael’s pastor, Fr. Timothy Reid and is well worth a watch below.  I grieve for the Kitson family, for Michael’s parish family, for his diocese, and in a special way for his brother seminarians.  They have lost a brother.  The Church has lost a dedicated loyal son.

I was especially moved to see that Michael’s pallbearers were his brother seminarians.

“But for those of us who belong to the world to come, those of us who bear the name Christian on our souls, we know that joy and suffering are not mutually exclusive, but that they often exist together in one’s soul.” – Fr. Reid
