Embracing Pride 365: A Call for Support & Solidarity

While June is Pride Month, it is critical to celebrate and support those in our community who are LGBTQ+ throughout the year, especially given the escalating attacks on our beloved transgender family and friends. As we witness a rise in discrimination and violence directed towards trans people, it becomes crucial to extend our unwavering support beyond a single month.

Amplify Transgender Voices:

Trans people face increasing levels of attack, making it paramount that we prioritize their inclusion and uplift their voices. By extending Pride celebrations beyond June, we create consistent platforms to share and amplify their experiences, struggles, and triumphs. Increased visibility and awareness foster empathy, understanding, and compassion, nurturing an environment where transgender people can be seen, respected, and embraced.

Nurturing Safe Spaces:

Pride celebrations provide essential safe spaces for LGBTQ+ to express themselves authentically and without fear of judgment. Extending these events throughout the year ensures that these safe spaces remain available whenever they are most needed. This promotes emotional well-being, community, and resilience, especially in areas where legislation is making it unsafe. We all need to find our people, find our chosen family.

Ongoing Education:

Every month presents an opportunity for education and advocacy. By dedicating consistent time and effort, we can educate people about the diverse experiences within the community. This ongoing engagement allows us to challenge harmful stereotypes, debunk misconceptions, and advocate for necessary changes in policies and attitudes.

Supporting Transgender Lives:

Given the alarming increase in harmful legislation and violence against transgender people, it is imperative that our support extends beyond mere lip service. By celebrating Pride every month, we raise funds, donate resources, and offer direct support to those working tirelessly to protect and uplift the trans community, including those providing emergency relocation and medical care assistance.

Building Lasting Allyship:

Allyship is a journey of learning, growth, and advocacy. By celebrating Pride every month, we reinforce our commitment to being effective allies to LGBTQ+. This sustained effort includes actively listening, educating ourselves, and challenging our own biases. It means standing up and speaking out against discrimination, amplifying marginalized voices, and building inclusive environments.

Celebrating LGBTQ+ Pride every month, with a particular focus on supporting the transgender community, is essential in fostering a more inclusive and accepting society. The voices of hate, homophobia, and transphobia are loud and consistent. We must stand behind our LGBTQ+ family and friends in support, stand alongside them in solidarity, and stand in front of them to take some of the stones & arrows coming their way.

Pride is a daily commitment to celebrate, protect, and affirm the rights and lives of all LGBTQ+ people.

Everyone deserves the chance to live authentically and thrive in a world that embraces and cherishes their unique identity.
