7. You believe you have clear enough vision to declare who’s in and who’s out.

Somehow you believe a guest list has been handed to you, so now you are in position to judge – to the point of knowing who’s going to hell. You strut out your lack of compassion and ability to help. Why would God confide such information to YOU? Supreme arrogance.

If I sound a bit scathing on this, it’s because I am.  My own precious children, your precious children, have been on the receiving end of attacks from people just like this — in God’s name, “with love.” And I have seen it in the lives of the thousands of LGBTQ and families with whom I have been blessed to connect.

Remember, the only people Jesus ever got angry with were the self-righteous, arrogant religious leaders who “othered” people and excluded them.

No one can stop you from being arrogant. That is a choice for you to make.

But don’t be surprised when people don’t respond well to you and don’t want anything to do with the God you claim to represent.

This is NOT the truth of the Bible you say you love. This is NOT the truth of the Jesus you claim to follow.

You either stand with the oppressed, or with the oppressor. If you draw a line in the sand and proclaim that some people are out, Jesus will always be on the other side of that line.

From my heart to yours, there is a better way.

Please, take a step back. This is a dangerous, vulnerable time for your child. The acceptance or rejection from a parent has more of an impact on the life of an LGBTQ person, especially a  young person, than anything else in their life.

God loves your child even more than you do.  God cares for your child even more than you can. Please just unconditionally love as you have been unconditionally loved and let God handle the rest.

Press into God, open your heart, and listen.

It does not have to be like this. You can just love that precious child of yours—and leave the rest up to God.

Please.
