Scholarly Depth Meets Pastoral Sensitivity
Last updated on: November 7, 2025 at 12:53 pm By Frank Viola
I’ve gone on record stating that Craig S. Keener is the greatest New Testament scholar in the world when it comes to the background of Matthew to Revelation. For that reason, I was deeply honored when he wrote the Foreword to my new book, The Untold Story of the New Testament Church: Revised and Expanded (2025). Keener released another marvelous book recently. 1-2 Peter, Jude by Craig S. Keener, part of the Word and Spirit Commentary series, exemplifies what biblical... Read more

A Bridge Between Ancient Context and Biblical Understanding
Last updated on: November 7, 2025 at 12:42 pm By Frank Viola
Archaeology and the World of Jesus by David A. deSilva offers readers an invaluable window into the first-century Mediterranean world that shaped Jesus’ life and ministry. This scholarly yet accessible work demonstrates how archaeological discoveries illuminate the social, economic, political, and religious contexts of the New Testament, transforming our understanding of familiar Gospel narratives. David deSilva’s greatest strength lies in his ability to synthesize complex archaeological evidence into coherent pictures of daily life in Roman Palestine. Rather than simply cataloging... Read more

Sadducees and Pharisees vs. Jesus Christ

Imagine. You watch a one-minute clip on YouTube of a physicist being interviewed. He’s talking about new research on the subject of infinity. Based on the short clip, you get an impression of the physicist’s views on infinity, and you make assumptions about what he believes about the universe. You then watch the entire four-hour interview and all your objections and questions vanish. It wasn’t what you originally thought. In addition, the physicist challenged you to a whole new way of thinking... Read more

Beyond the Political Binary: Restoring the Kingdom Message
Last updated on: October 27, 2025 at 7:43 am By Frank Viola
Look, the stuff going down in the USA lately has me thinking back to what’s been unfolding in my country since 2017. And before some of you do that thing where you speed-read and skim this article (which means completely missing the point), let me be clear: this isn’t your typical hot-take post. There’s actual nuance here, which I know is about as popular these days as a wet blanket at a bonfire. So slow down. Grab a coffee. Actually... Read more

Interview with Leonard Sweet – More Jesus Books
Last updated on: October 12, 2025 at 8:15 am By Frank Viola
As most of you know, Leonard Sweet and I teamed up to launch four cornerstone resources for the body of Christ. They are: A Jesus Manifesto for the 21st Century (online document) Jesus Manifesto (book by Thomas Nelson) Jesus: A Theography (book by Thomas Nelson) Jesus Speaks (book by Thomas Nelson) In all of these works, Sweet and I take what I have coined as a “Christopheric” approach by exalting Jesus beyond the stratosphere and addressing a glaring problem that has... Rethinking Pacifism
Last updated on: October 6, 2025 at 1:53 pm By Frank Viola
Today, we have a number of leaders in the body of Christ who are known for their fierce stance for pacifism. Every other Tweet and Facebook update is a sharp outcry against the military, national violence, global violence, weapons, and war. These leaders (rightly I might add) expose nationalism as an idol (something I did in spades in Insurgence: Reclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom just as I did with globalism). But there’s a problem. A big one. Let me use an... Read more

Bible Gateway Interview on the Insurgence
Last updated on: October 3, 2025 at 12:32 pm By Frank Viola
Bible Gateway — the most popular online Bible website in the world — interviewed me on the present Insurgence. Enjoy the interview. What message are you conveying by the one-word title of your book? There is a revolution happening right now in the body of Christ, an insurgence against what the New Testament calls “the world system” and into what Jesus called “the gospel of the kingdom,” which is the most powerful message in the New Testament. The insurgence began in... Read more

Rethinking Prophetic Utterances
Last updated on: October 1, 2025 at 8:01 am By Frank Viola
Recently, someone asked me this question. My answer follows it. Prophecy is one gifting Paul said to earnestly desire for edifying the Body, but I’ve only once experienced it close to how it was practiced in the early church. Instead folks with the gifting (or something like it) seem to be celebritized at some level in charismatic circles, or in evangelical circles. Others get harnessed with presenting it simply as “teaching.” The Holy Spirit is a polite bystander. My question... Read more

Passing the Torch
Last updated on: September 30, 2025 at 7:30 am By Frank Viola
The phrase “passing the torch” is a commonly used metaphor to depict the act of passing on a charge or responsibility to another individual. The metaphor comes from the ancient Greek torch races where one runner passed a lighted torch to another runner who carried the torch farther. I’ve been giving a lot of thought to the idea of passing the torch when it comes to the Lord’s work. Over the last five years, a number of God’s choicest servants... Read more

We Reached 10,000
Last updated on: September 29, 2025 at 12:28 pm By Frank Viola
Thanks to so many of you, we recently hit 10,000 subscribers on our YouTube channel. Yea, I know – that’s peanuts compared to some of my peers. But here’s what’s different: we didn’t spend a red cent on ads or promotions like basically every other author/speaker/podcaster. Every subscriber showed up because they wanted to be there, not because we paid for their attention. That’s rare these days. Most people with huge YouTube numbers are buying their audience and calling it... Read more
