LOGO Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.

This is personal. Trump was elected by white evangelicals. Their fundamentalist religion is a danger to the nation. It deformed their brains to believe lies. In the painting I’m working on now (the slide show is of a work in progress) as I write these lines I depict the Trinity as three old teddy bears. I’m commenting on the irrationality of all religious belief but (also) in my mind only mocking the kind of literalism that strips mystery of mystery. I call this painting “The Holy Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—Reveal Themselves to be Three Old Teddy Bears and Bring a Rubber Stamp with Them to Replace the Bible about Which They Now Have Doubts. They Also Bring Champagne, Rubber Ducks, and a Shower of Cyclamens.” On the rubber stamp these words are legible:

“Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities.” – Voltaire

Here’s the painting so far…

P.S. If you want to know a little more about where I’m coming from and my perspective on politics, religion and the intersection of faith and life– here’s a new movie about me. (It’s below the poster on YouTube) scroll down and watch it for free…
