Earlier this week, the Washington Post reported an issue that’s likely raising some eyebrows: toddler shootings.

Now, this isn’t toddlers being shot, but toddlers actually pulling the trigger on someone else. As the Post reported, there have been over 43 shootings by toddlers just this year– that’s an average of one per week.

Certainly, this is a tragedy– and the stories are difficult to read about. Last year there was the two year old who found a gun in his mother’s purse while they shopped at Walmart, and who took out the gun and shot her to death. This year we’ve had storiesScreenshot 2015-10-20 16.28.20 like the one in in Chicago the other day where a six year old shot and killed his younger sibling. Or, then there was the case in New Mexico where a 3 year old pulled a .45 out of his mother’s purse and shot both his parents. There was also the 5 year old boy in Texas who got ahold of a gun and shot his six year old brother in the stomach. And of course, there was also the recent case of Makayla Dyer, who was shot dead when an 11 year old boy showed up at her house and murdered her with a shotgun because she didn’t let him play with her puppies.

Of course, as you would expect, the lamestream liberal media is having a field day with this, and I imagine it won’t be long before the REgressive “Christian” bloggers start talking about it. In fact, I’ve already seen some suggest we need more regulations about how guns are stored in the home, FORCING the parents to secure their weapons. It’s their MO folks– they want to use the force of government to do things that make no difference. What can I say– for those progressive “Christians”, government is their god.

But let me quickly explain why these anti-gun nuts are dead wrong on this issue:

Toddlers shooting and killing their parents or siblings isn’t a gun issue, it’s a SIN issue. Guns do not kill people, they are not intrinsically dangerous, and using the force of government or force of parents (FOP) to get guns out of the hands of kids won’t solve anything in the end. Why?

It’s about sin, and we need to address that instead of pass new laws.

These parents have a right to own guns. Obviously, these guns are for protection so it would be stupid to keep them locked in a gun safe because they’d be totally unavailable in case of a home invasion. In order to be ready to gun down an intruder, these guns need to be in dresser drawers, on the bookshelf, or in another place where they can be reached quickly. That’s not the problem. The problem is sinful children.

I imagine all of the parents from the 43 toddler shootings this year either pointed at the gun and said “no touch,” or “for mommy and daddy only, very dangerous for baby.” The kids clearly understood that using the gun, especially to kill a parent or sibling, was against the rules.

And you know what? We’ve had 43 toddlers who sinfully disobeyed their parents and did it anyway. How will “more rules” fix anything??

These children clearly had the intention of being disobedient. What will we accomplish by making it more difficult for a toddler to get their hands on a gun? Nothing, that’s what. I mean, if a kid is intent on getting their hands on a gun, they’re going to do it one way or another. Have you ever seen what they can do when you put their sippy cup on the top shelf? They become freakin’ civil engineers in the amount of time it takes you to take a quick shower. Don’t let the size fool you folks, they have drive and willpower.

And even if you are successful in getting guns away from them, if they really want to cause problems they will probably just go get a knife from the kitchen– and you don’t think we should keep sharp knives away from kids, do you? I mean, this could really get silly if we let it. Heck, guns are no more deadly than a fork, are the liberals going to start suggesting we take forks away from kids? Come on!

When we look at this situation of toddlers shooting and killing people on a weekly basis, we need to remember: guns had nothing to do with it. Guns are not the problem, and more gun regulations will only hurt law abiding gun owning parents. The real problem here is sinful children who didn’t listen when mommy and daddy said, “no touch.”

So, the next time you hear some socialist talking about gun control and forcing parents to keep their guns locked away from children– locked so far away they become useless for the purpose of killing an intruder– just remind them: toddlers killing people isn’t a gun issue, it’s a sin issue.

…

Before you comment, just know this was satire (except for the real statistics and tragic stories) in response to the Christian gun violence argument, “it’s not a gun issue, it’s a sin issue.”

Sin is part of every issue— but America’s gun violence, whether adults or kids pulling the trigger, is most definitely a gun issue.
