Patheos Explore the world's faith through different perspectives on religion and spirituality! Patheos has the views of the prevalent religions and spiritualities of the world.
It’s a beautiful Spring day today. The sun is warm, the temps are up, the wind is calm. As I was folding kitchen towels a few minutes ago, I took a minute to enjoy the smell, the freshness, the bright colors of newly purchased, nicely folded “helpers.” That’s how I think of them. Little helpers that make my job easier. More pleasant.
Kind of strange to feel so chipper about little things when just last night, I wanted to die. Migraines do that to me. They also make me want to spit and curse like a tobacco chewin’, rodeo lovin’ cowgirl who says what’s on her mind. I grew up around those types of women, and while I didn’t pick up on the tendency to rodeo or chew, it is in my blood to forgo sugar coating the truth and just say things how they really are – without cursing, of course.
Because if we don’t say how things really are, how will we be able to deal with the way things really are?
Well, the answer to that is that we won’t be able to deal at all. Imagine if I denied I had a headache. I would’ve stiff armed my meds. I wouldn’t have rested. I wouldn’t have dimmed the lights. I would have kept working. And I would’ve gotten sicker and sicker until the pain was so bad, my only choice would’ve been to assume the position of a roly poly – to get all balled up, unable to cope, paralyzed, and send shotgun prayers to Almighty God to remove the pain or let me die.
Over one hundred people were hurt in Belgium today, and several dozen died. And our commander in chief still refuses to speak. He spoke, but not in the real sense of the word. He uttered words, but they were besides the point, and out of tune. He refused to admit our country, many countries, have a migraine that goes by the name of radical Islam. We have tools and helpers in the form of a military that is more than competent in remedying that migraine, and yet, they are told to stand by. Stand down. Stand at ease.
The President has refused to say how things really are, and therefore, we are not able to deal with the way things really are.
The first step to solving a problem is to admit there is one. But that’s not what’s happening. What’s happening is that we’ve been instructed to poo poo mass murder. To go on and enjoy our days. Fold our towels. Enjoy our Spring. Think and act politically correct. Take in the smells of peace, when the smell of probable, incoming doom and death looms stronger, just around the corner.
No wonder people are angry. They know they have it good, and they see that good coming to an end if someone with the ability to stop the evil does not acknowledge and act to snuff out the obvious stench. We are eager to be done with our President who refuses to admit there’s a problem, who cannot or will not say how things really are, so we can deal with the way things really are.
I love my country, and I want to see her taken care of. I want to see many more Spring days. But Winter always comes before Spring, readers. Sometimes war is necessary to attain peace. I don’t like that any better than a war loathing, peace loving hippy, but the fact is, conflict very often precedes peace. Anybody who has lived with other people know this. There is and will always be wars and rumors of wars going on until Christ comes and sets everything straight. But until He comes, we’ve been instructed to protect the weak, when we can.
So why are we sitting idly by, watching it happen, for fear of hurting someone’s feelings? What hurts MY feelings is that innocent people are dying. And while some innocent people always die in war time, the number of innocent people dying from ISIS attacks (in this supposed era of peace) could be greatly reduced by playing offense. All it takes is acknowledging there is a problem, locating that problem, and eradicating that problem.
This is in our power to do so. And therefore, we should do it.
Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due,
When it is in the power of your hand to do so. ~Proverbs 3:27
Before we get to the roly poly stage. Before we feel a deep, guttural need to cry out to God Almighty to stop the pain or let us all die. ISIS is not a joke. It is not racist or intolerant to refuse to be bullied, terrorized, and murdered en masse. And it is right is to stop those who are bullying, terrorizing, and murdering – simply because the power to do so rests in our hands.
