How to Stop Being Afraid

Last updated on: November 23, 2012 at 9:16 am   By Bill Blankschaen

For my Patheos friends, this post kicks off a series over the next few weeks as we unpack the following steps from Psalm 46 in more detail to discover God’s wisdom on how to stop being afraid.  Enjoy! Smack dab in the middle between real life and real faith is — real fear.  Fear of failure. Fear that we’ll look foolish. Fear that everyone will laugh when we do. If you’re looking for a fun family film this Thanksgiving holiday, you found it. No, it’s not Red Dawn, dads. Sorry. I’ve Got Plenty To Be Thankful For: 101 and Counting…

Last updated on: November 20, 2012 at 11:34 am   By Bill Blankschaen

Sometime it’s the simple stuff that means the most. As we prep for Thanksgiving Day celebrations, I’m tempted to focus on everything I could complain about. All the stuff that hasn’t gone my way. There’s no shortage of them, that’s for sure. But I choose to take a page from Bing — Bing Crosby, that is — and recall this song from Holiday Inn. I’ve got plenty to be thankful for / I haven’t got A great big yacht To sail from... Read more

How I Can Be Pro-Life — and Support the Death Penalty

Last updated on: November 19, 2012 at 12:12 pm   By Bill Blankschaen

I am pro-life — and yet I support the death penalty for those who intentionally murder another person. Some find my position incongruous and untenable. Quite a few commented as much on my recent post “5 Things I Don’t Understand about Christians Who Voted for Obama.” The charge goes something like this: how can you claim to be so concerned about the life of the unborn if you support death in any way? Many thought I was, at the least, inconsistent. I disagree.... Read more
