Poor People’s March on Washington June 29, 2024
Last updated on: June 25, 2024 at 8:32 pm By Jim Meisner Jr.
The “Poor People’s & Low Wage Workers’ Assembly & Moral March on Washington and to the Polls” will convene Saturday, June 29. It’s not a catchy title. The event should be the “Poor People’s March on Washington.” “March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom,” was the Aug. 28, 1963 event noted for the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech. Saturday will call on political candidates to “support a moral public policy agenda that includes living... Read more

The Civil rights struggle continues, so others may be free
Last updated on: June 21, 2024 at 4:24 pm By Jim Meisner Jr.
On June 21, 1964, in Neshoba County, Mississippi, Andrew Goodman, James Chaney and Mickey Schwerner were assassinated as they worked for civil rights. They died so others may be free. Neshoba County sheriff’s deputy Cecil Price assisted in their murders. During the search for their bodies in July, investigators discovered the remains of eight African American men. Two were identified as Henry Dee and Charles Moore, college students who had been kidnapped, beaten, and murdered in May 1964. The murder... Read more

5 Reasons Why Christians Should be Pro-Choice
Last updated on: June 14, 2024 at 11:02 am By Jim Meisner Jr.
Christians have a history of being pro-choice. Christians also have a history of supporting body autonomy and the freedom to make individual choices without government involvement. The United States was settled by people seeking control of their lives without government interference. With this history in mind, here are five reasons why Christians should be pro-choice. 1) The Bible says life begins with the first breath. “Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed... The Confederacy was Racist Christian Nationalists
Last updated on: June 3, 2024 at 11:58 pm By Jim Meisner Jr.
June 3 is a state holiday in Alabama to honor the birthday of traitor Jefferson Davis. Davis said: “We recognized the Negro as God and God’s Book and God’s laws, in nature, tell us to recognize him: Our inferior, fitted expressly for servitude … You cannot transform the Negro into anything one-tenth as useful or as good as what slavery enables them to be.” Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, “Stonewall” Jackson and all the hallowed heroes of the Confederacy were... Read more

How is God Like an Elephant?
Last updated on: May 21, 2024 at 3:16 pm By Jim Meisner Jr.
Do you know how God is like an Elephant? Sometimes we can see God and not understand. For example, do you know the story of three blindfolded people who were led to an elephant. The first person touched the elephant’s ear and said, “This is soft and supple like well-worn leather.” The second person touched the elephant tusk and said, “This is hard and smooth, like marble.” The third sightless person reached out and felt the elephant’s leg. “This is... Is Jesus the Only Way to Heaven?
Last updated on: April 29, 2024 at 5:20 pm By Jim Meisner Jr.
Is Jesus the Only Way to Heaven? Many Christians believe so, based on these words to his disciples: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me…... Read more

The “Doll Test” and the Damage of Segregation
Last updated on: May 17, 2024 at 1:56 pm By Jim Meisner Jr.
The “Doll Test” of Drs. Mamie and Kenneth Clark uncovered the mental and emotional damage of segregation in the United States in 1950. The landmark study helped influence the Supreme Court’s 1954 Brown vs. Board of Education ruling that separating children in public schools on the basis of race was unconstitutional. For those who think that “children don’t see color,” children certainly do, and they develop negative beliefs about race very, very young. Published in the summer of 1950, their... Read more

Aaron Sorkin’s To Kill a Mockingbird a timeless story
Last updated on: May 13, 2024 at 3:01 pm By Jim Meisner Jr.
Aaron Sorkin’s stage adaptation of Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird is a timeless, touching story of an idealistic father and his children learning that his faith in his neighbors is ill-placed. Richard Thomas as Atticus Finch is subtle, charming and commanding. An Emmy Award-winning actor for his performance in the iconic series The Waltons, Thomas may be recognized for his recent work on the Netflix series Ozark. Set in Alabama in 1934, Lee’s enduring story of racial injustice and... Read more

Palm Sunday 2024: “Save Us”
Last updated on: March 26, 2024 at 11:48 am By Jim Meisner Jr.
Palm Sunday 2024: “Save Us” “Hosanna!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!” ~ Mark 11:1-11 The word Hosanna comes from Psalm 118:25 “Save us, we beseech you, O Lord! O Lord, we beseech you, give us success!” They looked at this prophet riding on a borrowed horse, perhaps he was the Messiah, the man they had heard about. Perhaps they had... Read more
