The pigs have taken over Evangelical Christianity

The pigs have taken over Evangelical Christianity 2019-12-03T20:10:49-05:00 Jim Meisner Jr.

In George Orwell’s Animal Farm the animals rebel against human masters and promise a future of equality for all animals.

The pigs end up in control of the farm and they become everything they abhorred. Oppressive to the other animals, the pigs take on human characteristics and even wear the farmer’s clothes.

For years, Evangelicals stressed a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, a morality above reproach, and a Christianity that sent missionaries and shoeboxes full of supplies to the farthest corners of the globe. They warned that immorality would be the downfall of the United States, that people would be turned by ear-pleasing liars and that the only thing people needed was the Bible.

But as Christians and non-Christians alike have looked on, Evangelicals have proven to be the immoral, money-grubbing, hypocrites they railed against.

Animal farm book coverNot just the blatant, obvious hypocrites like Jim Bakker and Ted Haggard, but well known supporters of a lying, bigoted president.

Franklin Graham, who makes nearly a million dollars a year as the full-time CEO of two companies, including the Evangelical organization he inherited from his father, supports tax-cheat Donald Trump in every way. Trump admitted to claiming to raise money for veterans and instead spending the money on his campaign. Graham doesn’t care that Trump is a liar and thief.

Jerry Falwell, Jr. also inherited a Christian Evangelical organization from his father, and as the head of a Christian college with strict moral guidelines he has rejected his Christian roots and instead claims to be a business man. He’s a business man who has entered into questionable business partnerships with single, young men and who fawns over Trump like a man being blackmailed.

Evangelical Christians who parade through Trump’s White House show themselves to be as morally corrupt as he is. To ignore his racist bigotry is to agree with it.

The farmers and the pigs are having a wonderful time together ignoring their hypocrisy.

Evangelicals reject Jesus Christ and turn their backs on morality when they support a president who destroys families with abusive policies. It is the height of hypocrisy to serve as a missionary or send shoeboxes full of supplies to the farthest corners of the globe and then support separating families and putting children in cages when those same people appear at the border as refugees.

Less than 30 years ago, some Christians warned that immorality would be the downfall of the United States, that people would be turned by ear-pleasing liars and that all people needed was the Bible.

The warnings are coming true. Christians are being misled by ear-pleasing, immoral liars who are undermining U.S. sovereignty while they ignore hundreds of Biblical scriptures that demand we help widows, orphans, and the poor.

Pigs are always pigs, hypocrites are always hypocrites and Evangelical morality is obviously flawed if they unapologetically support an immoral liar in the White House.

They can try to twist scripture and ignore facts, but it still doesn’t absolve the unrepentant, bragging bigot-in-chief they defend.

Only immorality can defend immorality.
