We’re all frightened of the COVID-19 pandemic for very good reason right now. But, like you, I’m doing my best to love my neighbors. Washing our hands frequently, staying home except for absolute necessities, and communicating with our loved ones are essential steps. Keep it going.
Listening to public health professionals’ guidelines right now is critical, but President Trump has disregarded their expertise by calling for an end to social distancing by Easter – which could lead to horrific deaths.
Right now we must speak out as a community of faith to save lives. We can rebuild an economy which enables us all to flourish and the earth to recover. But we must continue to keep a safe distance from one another until public health leaders give us the all-clear. Rushing back into the public square will kill people.
Like many of you, I long for a return to communal worship. Easter is a joyful celebration of life, and it really hurts to not be able to celebrate it with my church family in person. But I know there is no better way to worship God than to protect God’s children.
Please tell President Trump to stop putting God’s children at risk from COVID-19 right now.
