A Thanksgiving Prayer 2011-11-23T07:00:22-05:00 Tim

A lot of people are still feeling the pressure of the tight economy, high unemployment, and uncertainty of tomorrow.  If there is one person we can look to in the Bible to encourage us to remember to be thankful, it would be Paul.  Paul was thankful for a lot of things and wrote about it often, even though he was persecuted over and over and left to die a number of times.  Not only did he express to his readers that he was thankful, he made it a priority to tell God he was thankful through prayer.

I’m so glad that we can come to God with all our issues and worries, but I think we forget to simply pray a prayer of thanksgiving sometimes.  In Philippians 4:6-7, Paul tells us that we should remember to be thankful when we pray for the things we need.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

A Thanksgiving Prayer

As we approach Thanksgiving, look at Psalm 100 as an expression of thanks to God.

Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.

Know that the LORD is God.  It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

In the word of Paul, “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”  2 Corinthians 13:14

Have a blessed Thanksgiving!
